Best small car for the wife?

Hi everyone, my wife will soon be taking her practical test and I'm looking into buying a car for when she (hopefully) passes, she pretty insistent on having a small car as she struggles to see over the bonnet of my saloon and doesn't like reverse parking (and apparently my car is "grumpy").

I was originally going to buy a second hand car as it's going to be her first car, but prices seem to be really high right now so I've decided to buy new - I'm looking at the VW Fox, as the starting price is pretty good and it has ABS and an immobiliser as standard, does anyone have any experience with this car, and can anyone suggest anything they think is better?

My budget is £8,000 max, thanks in advance.

The Fox is an exceptionally poor value car, its really a very bad buy. A used Polo is better in every possible way.

Otherwise consider Ford Fiesta, Fiat Panda, etc.

Second hand car prices, rather than being 'really high right now' are at the lowest level they have ever been.

What will it be used for? If its just town driving, just get Fiesta or something.

Echo the above TBH. Would add Skoda Fabia tho.

This part of the market is just full of solid cars right now. They all have just a few weaknesses.

Ford have a history of inconsistent rust protection at the welds recently. FIAT has the worst dealer network in the world ever. And the Skoda, although built like a tank, is a bit rough around the edges.

Mostly town driving, in my local dealerships and papers small cars are ridiculously expensive, if I had my way I'd get a mondeo or something similar (she refuses to get a polo, a bit fussy tbh).

Ford Ka ? Not my cup of tea, but if she wants REALLY small, then it will suit.

Had one as a courtesy car a while back and was amazed when parking that you are sat basically at the rear screen lol

The bigger the car, generally the better used buy.

This is actually about the most important decision you will ever make.

If she likes it, all is well in the world. If she doesn't, or it goes wrong at all, you chose a **** car, and never have sex again!

Well, that's how it usually goes in here.

my mothers got a fox, not as nice has her polo but it was damn cheap and she loves it. She will only buy a new car and this fitted her criteria well (cheap, new and not Korean).

Why does a woman need a car? There aren't any roads between the bedroom and the kitchen

Bit far to the shops though to get the food in, and what about me wanting to be picked up from a drunken night out at 3am for free and not having to thank anyone? :p
