Anyone thinking about showing there dog or just interested might want to check out the Kennel Clubs revised breed standard on a lot of dogs.

They mostly concern dogs with flat faces, trouble breathing and birth defects.

Changes are in the right direction but there still not enough.

Thankfully crufts wont be shown on BBC this year!

Just curious, but why:

"Thankfully crufts wont be shown on BBC this year!"?

Why would you want to see dogs with mild to severe berth defects paraded around a show ring under the illusion that this is how your dog should look like?

And without the BBC and other MASSIVE dog companies pulling out they would never have changed there breed standards, it would have stayed the same.

But they lost around £10-£50 million through loss of sponsorship.

Apparently from some people my girlfriend knows in the Labrador show circle, crufts this year is meant to be pretty empty company wise.

Not all breeds are like that! For many years my own breed club has been pushing (and paying for) testing for the only known serious inherited condition and the judges are careful to avoid that when placing. The breed standard had only one word added and that's nothing to do with anything extreme or inherited.
