Spiders, Scorpions & a Frog Oh My

Do you need to register your spiders with any authorities? I mean in the case of emergency services entering your house for example.

No. Tarantulas are fine :)

You do need to register for more venomous species such as the Sydney Funnelweb (Atrax sp.), Brown Recluse Spiders (Loxosceles sp.), Wandering Spiders (Phoneutria sp.) and Widow Spiders (Latrodectus sp.). You need a DWA (Dangerous Wild Animals) licence for those, a vet's visit and insurance :)

Interestingly there is another species of spider which is hugely venomous but has not been included on the DWA list. I won't mention the species in case of some idiot going out and buying one 'for a laugh', but they seem to have completely missed it for some reason.

Please close this thread. Its a family forum. :)

I dont like people who keep such 'freaks' as 'pets'.

Just remember, one day, they will bite you and kill you.

Here's the original size uncropped picture and another one with her mouth open. She's about 4" across which is adult size for a Fantasy. I got her early last year when she was the size of a £2 coin.

Click thumbnails for full size.

The white thing in the first picture is a cricket dusted with calcium hence why it was cropped out of the resized one.

A question: Do you ever, ever wake up in the night and wonder if you put all the lids back on the tanks.

I'll be requiring an honest answer ;)

I used to have nightmares about finding a spider in the bed but I never worry about the lids. I'm careful when I feed and water them.

What about the emporers? No need to register them? They can cause a lot of damage :/

Emperors are pretty harmless, no DWA needed for them.

Isn't there some kind of sand spider which is venomous? I forget the proper name of it but I'm sure it's potentially the worlds most dangerous, except that nobody has been bitten by one yet. Presumably (hopefully) you can't buy them anyway.

Wow awesome pictures of the frog, what does it do all day, just sit there or does it actually move about?

Now that it is older it mostly just sits in it's hole. It used to hop all over the place when it was young. When it is hungry it sits up alert.

You'd be surprised. If you know where to look that is.

Do you mean Sicarius hahni (Six eyed sand spider)?

Sicaarids in general are fairly nasty :)

Might have a few more pics for you tomorrow. I'm going to look at Rainbow land crabs with the intention of buying. We're also looking into Yemen Chameleons at the moment.

Chameleons! Then put random paintings on the background and see if they change colour to match!

(I am pretty sure chameleons don't work that way :()
