Hi All,

Well Being pretty new to the HD scene - only just getting a bluray / hd player for my pc wanting to buy a few movies.

Already purchased a few cheap HD DVD's on the cheap, just wondered though about Transformers.

Will I see much benefit from buying £5 HD DVD to £10-£15 blu-ray edition?

Cheers

The bluray 2 disk special edition can be had for £10. Mad not to get it for that price.

The HD DVD might be that bit cheaper, but eventually you won't be able to play them back.

Pictures about the same I would say both are are excellent, but that only from memory. I sold my HDDVD version with my player before I rebought it on BluRay.

Why, do all HD-dvd players die on a certain day like that dreaded millenium bug that killed all earth borne electrical life :p

Get whichever one you want, but I would say go HD-dvd just because it's a thrid of the price and exactly the same thing.

I cant tell the difference between the two, get the hd-dvd cos its only £2.99 - cheaper than the normal dvd version!

Eventually your HD DVD player will die, and you won't be able to get another. So it would be foolish to start/carry on building an HD DVD collection.

Get the Blu Ray.

The Blu-ray has a far superior HD soundtrack. The HDDVD version is also half of the price not a third. Lastly, he can easily sell the blu-ray on when or if he gets tired of it.

To be honest, for the sake of £5 I wouldnt mind that in 4 years time I wont be able to play it. By then I may have got bored with the film or even lost it by then anyway!

Will probabally just get the HD for now but thanks for all your input guys :)

And you can't buy betamx or VHS players anymore :p

We don't know if the OP even has a system capable of this, plus most systems would struggle to show the difference between HD and normal well mxed DTS or DD soundtrack any. These HD audio codecs are a bit like 1080p, made out to be more than they really are, well the audio is unless you have some seriously expensive kit to be able to tell ! An entry level onkyo and cheaper 5.1 system really isn't that good in the grand scheme of things ;)

BR has Dolby TrueHD, HD-DVD has only DD+ but otherwise should be identical. HD-DVD is a dead format but your player should last 2/3 years? I have the HD-DVD but only because it was before I got a PS3 :)
