Hi all, looking to buy the following:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-158-OK
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-076-OK
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-058-SA
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-063-PO

This will all be put into an existing ATX case with 300w power supply installed.

I know that ideally a new power supply would be purchased but I am speccing it for a friend and he wants as minimal an outlay as possible.

So,2 quick questions - will the spec be ok for playing Call of Duty 5 on Windows XP and hav I missed anything out?

Any answers appreciated as the components are going to be purchased tonight!

Thanks.

fraid not, that gfx card would struggle with COD5, and youre gonna need quite a bit more in outlay to get a decent one, id recomend change the CPU to an e5200, save money and OC it, then get a decent gfx card like a 4850

Thanks m8.

What graphics card would you advise then?

Cheap as possible would be ideal as its not my build and I am not clued up on graphics cards as I get mine for free lol.

Ninja Edit - The main reason I chose the q6600 is that it is part of a bundle hence cheaper. My friend doesnt really need a quad so if you can spec a better machine that will play COD5 for a similar price I am all ears. :)

Thanks again.

I would advise redoing your entire spec which is quite frankly pants. You're wasting your mates money.

If you dont mind getting an AMD processor you can easily afford to work a HD4850 graphics card into your budget and that will easily cope with COD5.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 7750+ Black Edition 2.70GHz

Asus ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB

Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-DS2H

Samsung SpinPoint F1 500GB SATA-II 16MB

OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5

Pioneer DVR-216DBK 20x DVD±RW SATA

This little bundle comes to £389.78 and will be a good budget gaming machine, as you can see I've put in a HD4850 gpu, one of the best value for money cards on the market and still saved your mate £50.

If you prefer Intel then get rid of the AMD processor and motherboard and add these two items:

Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.50GHz

Asus P5Q Intel P45
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-277-AS

Total will be £395 and is probably better than the AMD spec above.

You can't go wrong, just put a mild overclock on the cpu until he has enough money for a decent aftermarket cooler..... 3ghz should be a breeze on the stock cooler.

Thanks for your advice guys, as I said the only reason I went for a quad was because it was part of the bundle.

MikeGunz spec looks pretty good (the intel one rather than AMD) but will that be cool to run with the 300w power supply?

Get one of the Bgrade p5q it will just come in a white box.

The PCP&C PSU is cheaper & better

Corsair ram is always better

The hdd is a 320 platter thus much much faster

The cpu cooler allows you to overclock it to 3.0ghz so as not bottlenecking the 4850 this cooler performs the same as the freezer pro for £8 less

Get the sapphire as they all now have this cooler V

sorry this isnt related to this thread but are they the same thing as the eah4850? it seems that theres the HD 4850 and the EAH 4850 but not on the asus download site for drivers

Neither are from Asus :P

Both the same card, running at the same speeds. Just different branding on them. Had them running crossfire for the past week. Atm just have one in as I'm lending the other to my bro.

As far as I am aware they are both the HD models...

cheers brill etc is crossfire really worth it?

Cheers :)

Right lads, ideally looking to purchase today so can someone tell me if the Intel spec that Mike Gunz posted will be ok to run with a 300w power supply?

The PC will not be overclocked in any way.

Thanks.
