Hey guys. What would be the best way to get a VHS tape to digital form. Would it be better hooking up my VHS and recording to my PC or just use a VHS/DVD combo thing.

What codec is the best to use now with that kind of source material? H264?

Ive recently done video to dvd for a friend using a dvd recorder.

I recorded to a dvd then transferred to pc for final editing.

VHS/DVD combo would be the best way....hooking up your VHS player to your PC can cause problems, mainly with audio/video sync.

My Wintv card let me do it easily, connecting the VCR to the card, via scart. I think you maybe able to run a scart to a dvd recorder and then back up your stuff that way?

There are a number of ways to do this.

The easiest being VHS via scart to DVD recorder.

If you don't have a DVD recorder then Borrow a mini DV camera with DV in and record straight back to digital tape.

Then you can capture to PC for editing and digital authoring.
