Hi chaps,

Bit of a follow up thread. I got a thermaltake armor case on the cheap second hand. Alas the reservoir has cracked in two places as I was told would happen.

It's had me thinking as to whether I should just replace the pump for the system (Thinking Laing DDC with XSPC top 10W) and stay with 3/8" ID or go to 1/2" and get a new waterblock. However the rad is the problem as it would be the only surviving component and has 3/8" ID barbs.

This is a CPU cooling only solution although I am looking to W/C my 4870X2 in the future.

I'd rather keep costs below £120 total. which i don't think will get me a reservoir.

So a few questions:

1.) Is there a big performance improvement between running 1/2" over 3/8" with a good block?

2.) Should I just stick with the 3/8" system?

3.) If so, what size connectors do I need for 3/8" ID tubing?

4.) Is it possible to change the barbs/connector on this thermaltake rad?

5.) Assuming I don't need a rad change , is it possible to go 1/2" and get tubing, pump/res, connectors and block for less than £120?

I'd prefer to go compression fitment for peace of mind.

Thanks guys.

Just wondering whether theres anything obscure about my posts in here?

50 people have had a look but no one wants to comment?

The Difference would be 0.5 C, so nothing to woory about there

2.) Should I just stick with the 3/8" system?
You may aswell, althought i would be inclined to throw ALL the thermaltake stuff and start again

By this I take it you mean barbs? If so, then you need 3/8" barbs

4.) Is it possible to change the barbs/connector on this thermaltake rad?
I think it should be possible, although i have no first hand experience.
But you should get a new Rad if your wanting to add a 4870X2, the thermaltake one won't be up to it.
Or you could keep the current one and just add a 120.2 to be on the safe side

5.) Assuming I don't need a rad change , is it possible to go 1/2" and get tubing, pump/res, connectors and block for less than £120?
For £120, i wouldn't think so, unless you go 2nd hand.
I would say more £150, and thats Pump, res, tubing, compression barbs, and CPU block.

If you want to add a 4870X2 block, that will be an extra ~£70 for a nice one.

Hope this helps :D
