I'm taking out a policy in my own name with my parents as named drivers to get the quote down.

What exactly is to stop me adding, for example, my cousin (she's 27 with no claims/points etc) to get the quote down? Even if she would never step foot in the thing.

Cheers,

As said above, although it's disputable as to whether adding her also will bring your quote down. Insurance companies aren't stupid, I think they'll have a fair idea of whom will be the main driver and adjust their risk/quote accordingly.

It knocks almost £100 off on the online quote with Bell. However I'm not sure if it's a case of clicking Buy Now without them double checking the quote over.

I'm the main driver but will hardly ever use the car as I'm at university. It's my mum who will be driving it the most and it will be registered in her name. Only reason we're taking the quote out in my name is it's cheaper and I can earn NCB without any of this 'named driver must stay with the same company' rubbish.

Just want to make sure there's nothing illegal with doing that.

What car?

Mini Cooper Chili. Not my choice, as above it's my mum's car. Ordering it shortly so it'll take a month or two to arrive.

It's fine. They don't really know that she *won't* be driving it, as opposed to getting your dad to insure your car in his name, for example, when it's often blatantly obvious ;)

Fair enuff, I can obv see why you'd want to earn your own no claims.

What you've proposed isn't illegal. My comment was more aimed at people who try to pull the wool over the insurance companys eyes and then get a nasty shock when they try to make a claim after writing the vehicle off.

Obv I'm not alledging that you are such a person :)

I added my sister onto my policy as a named driver. Lowers the quote by about £250. She lives at the other end of the country and has never even seen the car.

Adding my parents reduced the quote but adding my girlfriend either increases the quote or makes some insurers refuse to quote which suggests it's not quite as simple as just 'add a girl'.

Both my parents are on my policy.. but adding more than 2 to my policy on the MCS made it go up a little bit.
