loud exhausts

I'm just wondering what these kids do to make their cars so loud a guy up the road bought a 25 year old pile of rubbish he has now put expensive wheels on it (must be worth more then the car )and as somehow made the car sound like it has no exhaust at all ,yet the original pea-shooter is still visible ,his brother has bought a similar car and now made his sound the same .

They come and go all night waking you up every time they pass even though double glazing and earplugs

I can't really understand why the cops seem to turn a blind ear no way are they legal .

So what do they do to make them so loud ,drill holes in the exhausts and how would it pass its MOT .

Could be like my old MK1 MR2 where the exhaust is there but has a massive hole in it before any silencers. It should fail an MOT but someplaces will give you the wink wink slight hole in the exhaust. ;)

I don't get how they don't find it embarrassing. If you're driving a proper sports car with a solid V8 engine under the bonnet then great, have an exhaust louder than an atomic bomb. If you're driving a piece of rubbish with a 1.2 litre engine, get a life. You're not drawing attention to your "nice" car or your wealth, you're just making everyone think you're a prat. I don't mind the chavs with loud subwoofers because I can relate to it and appreciate a lot of people love to whack up the music when driving, but exhausts... extremely sad and pathetic.

remove the backbox probably, and turn it into a straight through exhaust.

that will make it plenty loud enough. Can make even a 1.2 Corsa sound as loud as a TVR (but obviously not the same)

Generally they just take a screw driver and punch some holes in the back box.

My exhaust is rated 106dB but at least it sounds good and is paired to a high-revving twin cam Japanese engine. I keep the revs down in urban areas as, frankly, you just look like a ****.

I drive 2.5 V6 jap car and I like the low noise as standard ,when you do race ,people don't know if you're trying or not as they can't hear the engine.

I find it amusing when some boy racer trys to beat me with a car sounding like something from the race track that is about as fast as a 50c scooter .

I think anyone with an excessively loud car looks like a pratt though ,low noise but fast is stylish imo .

Some peeps cant afford V8's and nice jap turbo cars. They have to make do with what they've got/can afford.

If they think it sounds good, then fair enough.

Why should they give a **** what anyone else thinks?

I like to just sit behind them and keep the safe distance as they give it death, pretending I can't tall they're racing. Did it to a Smart the other day, got to admit tho, it was a damn fast Smart, have they done a sporty one?

My bike exhaust sets off car alarms if I get too close and rev it :D . But I'm a weekend warrior and tend to stick to country roads anyway (though today I went out and it was freezing!).

TBH it really is an issue if you live in the center of a town / city. It's bad enough having chavs "race" on their stupidly loud scooters.

I have no problem with people wanting to make their motors sound louder if they like, just dont drive them in highly populated areas. I wouldn't pop around your street with a brass band a 2AM in the morning would I? It's the same with idiots racing either Corsa's all over the place, if you want to do that, goto a track, not my street thank you very much

not very fair on the neigbours though ,I don't wan't hear them everytime they leave the house and then return and get woken up by it during the night .

The only person that thinks it sounds good is the idiot behind the wheel ,I guess if you're happy that most people think of you that way ....

It becomes an issue when it goes from being loud, to being loud and unpleasant. There are some tones and noises that are just intrusive and painful and those are the ones that cause issues.

Also very well said.

Also why I'm taking a liking to the present generation diesel models. Silent as anything but outrageously quick. Dad loves giving the odd Golf GTI/Focus ST a run for its money.

The worst ones for me are the classic minis. They make the most hideous, disgusting, painful noise. Or at least a lot of them do.
