loud exhausts

I have a fairly loud exhaust but always try to drive with a bit of respect when in residential areas.

Unfortunately performance usually comes at the price of noise when it comes to exhausts.

I'd much prefer to have a reasonably quiet exhaust.

Some peeps cant afford V8's and nice jap turbo cars. They have to make do with what they've got/can afford.

If they think it sounds good, then fair enough.

Why should they give a **** what anyone else thinks?

Everyone else points and laughs. Why on earth spend what the car is worth chavving it up?? Then don't tell the insurance so the insurance is void anyway:confused:

A corsa does not need a 3inch bean can on the back....

Because they like the noise of their car ? The noise also adds to the sense of speed so perhaps they want to feel as if they're going faster ?

Shame we don't have proper big engined cars in europe though. I love the sound then a big GMC or Chevy drives by it really makes 90% of the cars in Europe look like ****.

Every post I've seen you make in motors recently has been along the lines of

"european cars are gay, small engines and look gay, why don't we have big american cars with big engines, they make our cars look ****"

We get the point.

I must be getting old as I've recently started to think this :(

My Rover's exhaust is standard bar a backbox with a 4" tip. I think it suits the space in the bumper really well but it is very loud. It does however sound brilliant, yet to 99% of the public it's just an old Rover with a loud exhaust.

I don't care what these people think. I put my foot down and I'm out of sight within a few seconds :p

The worst ones for me are the classic minis. They make the most hideous, disgusting, painful noise. Or at least a lot of them do.

I think a mini with an LCB manifold and decent exhaust sounds pretty nice for a 4 cylinder engine. The siamesed head gives it a very distinctive sound which is far more pleasant than the average Saxo with big exhaust that simply makes a hideous droning noise.

However, I've always thought a reasonably quiet exhaust was preferable. Why spend money to draw the attention of the police? A bit like fitting silly number plates, no performance gain and potentially a load of hassle.

EDIT: I'll concede there may be a slight safety advantage for bikes, but the only V twins that should be allowed loud exhausts are Ducati's. Anything else, and especially Harelys, sound like a rapid succession of ear shattering wet duck farts. Horrific noise.

Got a buddyclub pro spec on my old civic, loud as hell and used to make me grin like mad when i got it. Roll on when i find the money for my prelude :D

On a similat note there's a girl i know of round my area with a kitted, sprayed pink scobby and it is the loudest thing i have heard, feels like a minor earthquake when she's driving about :D

I guess if you love sounding like an RC model car then sure.
I'll sick to my V8 :big grin:.

It turns heads without looking like a effin chav idiot and something tells me, those kinds of people would love a v8 as well.

But I wouldn't drive anything that sounded like a 1000kg mosquito.

Congratulations on your definition of the word "selfish". The reason is consideration of others.

Not terribly fashionable these days I know, when every ******** seems to feel they have a right to impose their own choices on everybody around them no matter how antisocial they may be.

I live 200 yards from a police station on a mian road. I hear them do 40-60mph down the main road with their loud exhausts past there. Not seen or heard one get pulled in 2 years! The Police station is the base for the areas traffic police too.

The worse offenders are Imprezas though, very distinct sound. I can't complain mind, mines pretty loud on tap. Not that it's ever on tap in a 30 zone though.

I'm never sure about why people actually want to do it...I want my car to be as quiet as possible.....some of the cars round here are so loud that driving any distance on a motorway must be a real chore..a small engine that has to run at higher revs coupled with an insanely loud exhaust just sounds like a one way trip to hell for me

My Saxo can be a bit of an ear bleeder at full chat. Unlike some, I don't drive in residential areas in a way that gets me 'noticed'.

My car came with an aftermarket exhaust and over the time that I have owned her it has loudened to a point where it has got too loud for my tastes. I try to keep my revs below 2.5-3k in areas with a lot of people because I don't want to look like a tit :/

Have you seen all the hoohah on the forums about the Japspeed exhausts?
