Really bright star in sky?

Over the past few weeks or so I've noticed a really bright star in the sky.

It isn't like the other stars, this one is really big and bright. (No, I'm not getting it mistaken for the moon, I'm not that stupid. )

If you go outside and look up you can't miss it.

So could anyone tell me what planet/star this is? I'd research it but I'm not up on astronomy so I wouldn't know what I was looking for.

It's probably a bright star.

It's venus. You can see it a lot around this time of year really bright, normally in the south west.

Brightest star in the sky is Venus... it's also usually the first star to appear and last one to disappear.

Just one slight thing wrong there though, Venus is a planet. The brightest star in the sky is what I said above, Sirius.
