Over the past few weeks or so I've noticed a really bright star in the sky.

It isn't like the other stars, this one is really big and bright. (No, I'm not getting it mistaken for the moon, I'm not that stupid. :p)

If you go outside and look up you can't miss it.

So could anyone tell me what planet/star this is? I'd research it but I'm not up on astronomy so I wouldn't know what I was looking for.

Thanks

Any other details? time of day/night, height in the sky? colour? :) there is a comet due for visibility.
