January Transfer Window Thread - rumours and signings here

I do wish people would shut up with the nonsense.

Firstly, bellamy is 10 times better than Vassell, possibly 10 times better than Jo who has played great in a couple games but awful in others, the young guy whose shown a bit of promise and is far more proven than the two youngsters Sturridge and Evans even though Sturridge looks a very good talent for the future.

I don't remember City stating he was their key to winning a title, he is however available, proven prem quality, someone who can EASILY score more than Vassell, whats the issue. He didn't want to stay at liverpool he wasn't being played, he cost however much, West Ham did want him, he's playing very well at the moment and so the price is different, get over it.

As for Kaka, its hardly the case that he's playing for 5k a week at Brentford and he turned down huge money. He's on what, 100k a week, maybe more, he's beloved in the city and its his home. he's hardly walking the line of poverty to stay is he. TO be honest, he's staying in the safe home where he's a god rather than trying his hand in a widely thought to be better league where theres more pressure. Its not like Milan are a title chasing side at the moment, nor have they been for a while. Not a Euro power house either and won't be for years either.

Frankly he can play where he wants, fair play to him, he turned down huge money, to stay on almost huge money, doesn't seem quite as fantastic to me as most of you. If I were at Arsenal, on 150k a week, and Real Madrid offered me 300k a week, I wouldn't go, why? I feel at home here, its where I'm from, at 150k a week i'd be richer than anyone I know by far, I'd have enough to live and retire on easily and I support Arsenal. It wouldn't be an integrity based decision, or loyalty, I simply wouldn't want to go.

I'll laugh if City are doing better in the champs league in 2-3 years than Milan are, which is a distinct possibility.

You think he's not? Vassell's one of the least effective strikers to grace the premiership, hell, Nugent was more dangerous yesterday than I've seen Vassell in any game in the past 5 years. Earnshaw, Jeffers and only a few others rank below Vassell for me.

Vassell has scored in like 1/6 games for City and he scored better years ago than now, he's probably a 1/8 scoring striker right now. he's utter crap.

lol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darius_Vassell

in the past 4 years, best is 36 appearances 8 goals worst 21 and 2 or 32 and 3. Personally i'd call that 8 goal year a fantastically lucky year for him :p

can't quite tell but Bellamy's worst year seems to be at Liverpool 41 appearances 9 goals, though, just in the league he got 7 goals in 27, which is far better than Vassell.

During his(Vassell) second season for the club, he generally struggled to find his best form. In the latter half of the season, many of his appearances were as a wide midfielder....

Not saying he was good, just there are far far worse strikers than Vassell.

Citeh don't need Kaka now anyway as they've got Bellamy.

Apparently Robinho has stormed out of their training camp in Tenerife and flown back to Brazil.

MH: Just to let you all know that we won't be signing Kaka now.
Robinho: But... but you promised me more big name signings before I joined, I want to win things!
MH: And I haven't let you down, may I present our latest signing the Welsh international Craig Bellamy \o/
Robinho: /Cries and flies....

Wonder if he'll ask for a transfer now;)

Just shows really that 'buying success' isn't as easy as simply throwing money at a team, that team has to be genuine contenders in the first place or the best players won't want to join it:)

I don't think it's only the fact that Man City have signed a very average played in Bellamy that's really the issue, it's the fact that when the Sheikh took over, he promised Kaka, he promised Fabregas, he promised World Class stars, and to be fair, he tried to deliver one in the huge bid for the Brazilian, but the simple fact is that for all their money, they have no allure, they've no pedigree, they will never be as big as Man United, and as such they will still have to shop at Asda rather than Waitrose, albeit at inflated prices.

Who's us?

Do you play for the team or something?

Are we meant to guess at what team you are referring to?

I thought the Toon club crest on my sig and the TOON TOON BLACK N WHITE ARMY would be a clue:p

Would love the robinho thing to really kick off, stick City back down with us lot in the bottom end

On a side note I am gutted I won't get to see Kaka play week in week out

Apparently Southgate wants to sign Harewood and Ben Watson for £4m but it depends on him selling Mido.

I get the feeling that won't be enough to keep us up but any new central midfielder has got to be better than Shawky and Arca.

What i'd give to have Boateng back

I agree its bad for the lad but ****ing frustrating when you have spent x million on someone sat on his arse for 2 seasons, it's another Saha situation I can see it

Bit harsh I feel, ok I dont doubt he should have played more last season - but he still notched up 1/2 the games the club played (25 I think, although I cant remember how many starts/subs)

Saha would have only managed around 5 :D

Incredibly frustrating without a doubt

On a different note I seem to recall Anelka's total transfer over all the club's he has gone to comes to around £80m or something - Bellamy may not ever command similar single transfer costs, but he moves seemingly more often - so I wouldnt be surprised if he was upto around £60-70m or so (complete guess mind :) )

Bellamy is a decent player but certainly not the type you buy if you want to win anything. He plays a few decent games before the transfer window and bang, some mugs have blown £14m on him, it's just laughable.

I was so happy when I heard City had bought him.

Thank God he didn't end up with us.

Spurs need a striker more like Santa Cruz or Arshavin.

We could also do with Gattuso playing the Davids style hard man in midfield as atm, the only player we have who could maybe land a punch would be O'Hara. :p

I presume you mean both as they are completely different players, in completely differing positions!

I mean either.

With Santa Cruz he would make a great partner for the likes of Defoe and Bent providing a much more clinical finish.

Arshavin would link up well with Pavlyuchenko obviously as well as Modric dropping just behind the front two. He would be much more of a creative forward than Cruz.

Either player would change our style.

Maybe City will come to their senses now and think about what they nearly did. If I had the option of buying one player for £100-130m or 10-13 £10m players then I know what I would do.

Or even 4-5 £25m players would be better.

I think they have to aim at a lower market other than the very cream of the crop.
