2X8800 V GTX295 and power requirements

Hello,

Just wondering how much an increase I could expect from a SINGLE GTX295 over an SLI's GTX8800 set up. Not seen any direct benches comparing these. Was also wondering what type of power the GTX295 uses up - "less" that two 8800's? what you think?. I mean, there is more horsepower there, and megs per card, so although a "single slotter" was wondering if the 295 will actually use MORE power....

I have a 850 watt ocz Gamestream psu, running my GTX8800's, along with a Quad [email protected]/3.7. Vantage 3dmark BTW is about 12050 (14,000 on cpu)


Also, i was wondering if the 295 "scales " better with (it is a dual card afterall) than, say two seperate cards like the ones I have.

From the reviews i've seen the gtx295 uses between 430w-480w at load and 8800gtx sli used around 470w at load so they are about the same i think, i'm using a corsair HX620 with my 295 with no problems.

Me i would keep your 8800GTX cards. Unless you can get a real good price for them. I don't see the point of upgrading them for a few extra FPS.

8800GTX SLI is around the same speed to slightly faster than one half of the 295GTX - so you'd get around 70% higher framerates overall from the 295GTX. I would think power useage would be broadly similiar tho I would expect the 295 to be quieter and cooler running.

What screen resolution? Anything under 1680 x 1050 is just not worthit with a 295.

Oh I dunno - 295GTX would allow me to play farcry 2 on ultra settings with lots of FSAA at 1440x900 or 1280x1024 and get 100fps avg for silky smooth gameplay

Woah! so two 295's at load would generate near 900W?

I think thats the power consumption from the whole system, not just the card.

Without the rest of the system taken into account 2x 295 alone would hit a peak of ~580watt :S Add in another 200watt or so for the rest of the system and its not far short of 900.

Thanks. Res is 1920x1200 (25.5" sammy).

Wasn't really thinking of "far superior" frames, but just something that runs cooler, uses less power, and require just one slot. (Farcry2 chugs a bit when adding aa/af (lots of it that is). Not tried somne of the later titles though (mirrors edge/Stalker clear sky and others

Only great thing about a 295 is its one card in one (two) slots. i believe 2 seperate cards should scale ever so slightly better than a single slot (2gpu) design spec for spec.

Cheers. What utility are people using to measure power consumption? (another toy) seen some of the psu posts in THIS THREAD

RE: SLI scaling, thought it would be the other way round really - well they are closer together!
