Obama hysteria

Be glad that we don't have John McCain, who apparently openly admitted that he 'doesn't really understand economics'!
So what? He doesn't have to, he appoints a secretary for that stuff. We have a PM here who was chancellor and thus could claim to understand economics and look where that took us :p

Yes you have. Good grief, they're even banning liquids on flights now!

Small and trivial methods. All that means is you cannot take your own liquids (sometimes) through security. If you were going to take an aircraft down it's not the way a well planned attempt would go.

All that liquid that gets sold in the terminals. I've seen tonnes of that stuff come in and never be scanned. When I go through security in the morning I'm treated like a member of the taliban for having a muller fruit corner.

Yet at any time of the day I can pop out in a works van drive off airport and then drive back in. The security checks consist of me going through a scanner while someone has a 30 second look over my van. Normally that involves opening all the doors and the glove compartment. One of the glove compartment snubbers is broken on one of our vans and it's taped up. Never has security ever peeled the tape off in the two years I've been there. My van is full of liquids and parts that have never been challenged. Neither have they bothered scanning my pc equipment if I'm building one at work.

Now you tell me how hard that would be to bring in a weapon or explosive and stash that on an airplane. Security sealing the aircraft at night involves a sticker that doesn't even split when you pop open a door. So any monkey can open the door and re-apply the sticker in half a second.

Then keep in mind that a huge proportion of these 'cleaners, dispatchers and handlers' are from ethnic groups many of whom have less traceable backgrounds. Yet a UK born resident I have to provide a disclosure that has to been completely clean or no job.

The current UK airport I work I've been there for two years. I am regularly on the line with tools removing panels, opening engine cowls etc etc. Not once have I been asked by security who the hell I was or even to see a pass.

The only time I've been challenged in 2 years is by a security guard in WHSmiths in the terminal to make sure my pass was more visible.

Your seriously deluded if you think our security is any better than the americans.

Woe betide anyone though who might bring in butter for the toast.

When you say "come in", what do you mean? Come in where? Into the plane at a boarding call?

Since you're not attempting to board a plane at the time, I'm hardly surprised that nobody checks your liquids. Liquid checks are for people boarding planes.

Nothing you've said here relates to security measures for people boarding a plane.

So you're not actually talking about plane security here, are you?

You haven't actually proved that it is still easy to hijack a plane, nor have you proved that UK air security is no better than the Americans' security (in fact, you haven't even given examples of the Americans' security).

You've confirmed that your van is searched and your identity is checked as soon as you enter the premises. Which helps to explain why nobody challenges you further.

As in come into the secure zone to be later picked up, what I'm saying is it's very very easy to get stuff in to then be picked up by a passenger that's cleared security.

Completely the opposite, I am boarding planes and at a time when no one is watching. As are cleaners and all other members of various working teams, unchallenged.

What I'm showing is how easy it is for a small team to get items on board without the passenger having to worry about security.

The point is they aren't searching my van and wandering about live aircraft I've never been challenged once despite entering and leaving aircraft 50 times a day or night. Yet you dont think that shows a lax in aircrfat security.

You said the americans had prior warning but took no pre emptive measure's, well neither did we and despite a crap flight deck door system and liquid checks nothing else has gotten tighter. Look how easy it was for the protesters at night at heathrow.

If you was going to hijack a plane now it would be incredibly easy to do with one man on the inside and the hijacker just coming through security like any regular passenger.

Seems to be better than Bush, although we will only see if he sticks to his words when he comes into power...
Tbh, I hate all the hype here in the UK about him...I mean, we are in ENGLAND, not AMERICA:rolleyes:
He is just another president, he is black, so what, colour means nothing to me, everyone is the same..
I think life will just carry on as normal, nothing will change radically as a load of people are making out to be.

OK, so everyone is going crazy over this guy for the next few days, yes I know he is black, yes I know he is the first non white president etc etc ( this is all the coverage seems to be about ), but the underlying question is, is he any good at doing this job ?

Dont really give a toss about the colour of his skin, makes no odds to me.

Will he be a good president and I hope he was elected because of this reason.

To me, he seems like an intelligent person who knows what he is talking about. He has great charisma and when he talks people listen!

After GW Bush that is more than enough for me!!!!!

He is now president, may he have the strength to change our world. Good luck Barack Obama our hopes are with you. :)

Is he President though? He didn't fully recite the Oath of Office, he fluffed it twice and then on the second time missed a few words out. I'm no US constitutional expert, but wouldn't that render the Oath null and void?

John Roberts flubbed it, not Obama. Obama caught that it was misread which led to his pause until Roberts got it right.

Just need to turn your blinkers off there a moment mate. The UK is the closest ally to the US. The US affects the whole world in so many terms including (most importantly) financially, politically and militarily. Therefore, for many people in the UK the decisions made by the the US shall directly affect them (think of all the businesses and all those people in the forces). Whether you like it or not, the election of the US president is an important implication on everyone's life in the world whether they realise it or not.

good speech but cant believe he fluffed the speech.... twice

from previous posts looks like it wasnt his fault however when i was watching it i though you can rememebr flippin good speechs but you cant follow some one elses words :p
