Hi Guys

Had my car up for sale for a few days now - http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/859089.htm

Had a few emails and tonight i got my first call but it wasnt the normal he was phoning from france ....

He asked me loads of questions about the mods, if i had been in an accident why i was selling etc and wanted to come and see it saturday. He evan asked me how far i lived away from gatwick and how long it would take to get near my house by train. He also asked my bottom price which i said was £12500

I asked him why he didnt just buy the car from france and he said he wants a RHD version

Im very confused, it does not SMELL of scam but im unsure where to go from here

I guess if you have some mates with you for backup and you make sure he brings sterling cash, its worth giving him the benefit of the doubt?

Absolutely fantastic looking car, shame you have to sell it. Is it just not practical enough?

I would be slightly confused at to why he wanted a RHD version when he could just get an Opel Speedster, did he say why he wanted a RHD one? He could be turning it into a race car or dedicated track car? Not sure really. Doesn't scream scam to me though.

It's becoming fairly common for TVRs currently with the low exchange rate and stuff, I wouldn't be suprised.

I asked him infact told him just to go and buy it from france as it was hassle but he said he wanted a RHD one !!!

I think im going to wait for my old man to get back from holiday and then invite him round to see the car, cash only and he can come to the bank while i put it in to make sure its legit .....

Its a good car (bloody well is now after spending a fortune on it) but i just dont have any enthusiasm to drive it. If i go out with my mates for a drive then im left behind as there all thrashing there pulsars / STs / imprezas to an inch of there life and theres me tip toeing around because of a bit of rain.

Think im going to get a nice focus ST3 that has allready had the intercooler / remap and exhaust done which should be pushing around 300 BHP ....

I think that's relatively normal, especially with the way the exchange rates are at the moment.

The VXT is fine in the rain, it just requires more concentration and perhaps training.

I was gonna say, why not get one a skid pan and maybe get someone to show you how it's done?

I guess you're probably disenchanted with the car due to the money spent on it but it seems a shame to sell it because you can't keep up with your mates. Remember, it's not a race it's a rally!

I would check with the DVLA about anything you may need to do with it being driven off to France seeing as the buyer isn't a UK resident. Other than that, good luck with the sale :(

ah, i though this was muncher's car.. wondering why the accident wasn't mentioned, and why he was selling it :o

it probably is a normal buyer, or a dealer, wanting to pick up a good deal due to the exhange rate..
regarding driving it away on GB plates, i'd presume he'd have to stick export plates on it in order to get it into france? unless he's got a UK address.

did he have a french accent?

I don't drive out with mates like that anymore, it's just asking for trouble.

It draws too much attention, if anything goes wrong you will really look bad as the assumption will be that you're racing, you spend too much time checking everyone is where you think they are and also either you or others will try to hard and take risks.

Just drive it on your own and enjoy it for what it is :) That said, I realise you do have genuine reasons for selling.

Its not just that tho, its not really a country road kind of car and is at home on a nice smooth track. Im not really that fussed about doing loads of trackdays so it kind of seems like a bit of a waste. Ofcourse training would be a good idea but i still think a focus ST would wizz all over it down a set of country lanes purley because the vx just isnt built for that kind of thing. Infact if i go to fast and hit a bump i wack the front of the bloody clam on the floor.

To top it all off ive moved house and getting it on and off the drive requires ramps and i cant be arsed with that everytime i use it. Its no loss ive enjoyed it but want to move on :)

I had two guys from France and one from Swedon enquire about my Skyline when I had it up on PH, they all seemed genuine, I guess the weak pound just makes used UK cars attractive at the moment :)

in some countries you get a random plate so you can't even tell when it was first registered
in other countries the plate stays with the owner not the car..

i think the UK is the only one that explicitly shows when the car was first registered on the number plate

Makes you feel any better, although probably wont, guy came from Germany to buy my Jeep. Everything went fine. I have no idea why he came all the way from Germany though. The only issue was he wanted the papers done asap so he could leave the country with it, but that's kinda out of my control once they're in the post.
