Setanta Sports? The most retarded company in the world?

I was thinking about getting Setanta.. Doesn't sound like I should they seem like a pretty terrible company to deal with.
Don't do it. They have their own black hole - anything with 'cancellation' marked on it gets sucked in, never to be seen again.

That goes double if you were thinking of getting a satellite subscription with them. They don't use the Astra satellites that Sky use, so it's very common that you'll receive good signal from one or the other, but not both.

Sounds terrible!

I hate them cos we have Sky and have lost half our football game, which sucks :/

This is another thing.. why should we the consumer get shafted by needing to pay/subscribe to multiple channel providers to watch the whole of a legaue/cup or event. I'm all against monopolies but when it is something like this it just gets silly.

Why would anyone in their right mind sign up for Setanta Sports in the first place. They show rubbish Premiership games (Sky get the cherry pick of games), and some US sports.

Trust me in 12 months, nobody will even remember the name Setanta. The Irish economy is worse than the British economy, which means they are doomed.

Setanta get the pick of cup games, choice 1, 3 and 4 every round.

And they get all the friendlies.

Shame, and we can't take our £10 a month Sky sports subscriptions off the bill.

Same. They get some reasonably good games so i've been tempted to sign up. But every time I look into it I just get page after page of complaints.

I might consider taking my chances with their cancellations department, but then I hear that the signal is poor, that it cuts out, etc. They also don't even have an HD channel, which I think is pretty poor form when they're offering live sport.

As for cancelling, i'd personally just send them a letter by RMSD cancelling it and give 30 days notice. Then, when 30 days have passed from reciept, cancel the Direct Debit. If they chase you, just tell them to go do one. They clearly state that you can cancel by letter, so you're not doing anything wrong.

It's got to stop somewhere, after all. I mean what are you going to do if they keep taking money and ignoring your letters? Just pay them the money each month for a service you don't want?

Send the letter. Cancel the payment. Tell them to run it up their flagpole and salute it.

They use Eurobird 1, which also carry Sky services. The only explanation for not being able to receive them would be if your Sky dish hadn't been correctly installed. It's completely possible to get an excellent signal from both.

Canceled it without too much fuss, sent an email a letter and rang them. then canceled direct debit as it said on our welcome letter in the small print "you can cancel your direct debit at anytime" told them this on phone they canceled there and then, well haven't heard from them in a year:)

Thats what I have done, there just a totaly shambles. Never, ever again will I go with shatanta.

The picture quality is horrific, its like watching football but with "NES 16-bit" blockyness.

Seriously, avoid. Its just not worth it!!!!!

The are so bad are canceling is they cant afford to lose customers so will do anything to keep you signed up and hope you just give in, gypo run company.

ive got setanta through my freeview TV, mainly for the SPL games. seems fine to me, but i havent tried to cancel yet.

i've got sultana through Virgin Media, so i've not tried to cancel it yet. it is undoubtedly crap though, the games it shows are rubbish (sorry the SPL doesn't do it for me :p ) and it has no other decent sport at all. the only good thing is that you get LFCTV for free with it.

They are a real nasty company, when we had sky it was a nightmare to cancel! My dad was turning red from arguing over the phone when they didn't cancel our subscription.

We have Virgin Media XL package now, so we get sentanta included. As people have said though, I actually thought there was something wrong with my TV as the picture quality was so blocky.

Cancelled verbally over the phone and had to lie and say i was moving away as they just kept going on and on about football even though i only wacthed the golf, was told i had to sent a recorded letter in!. I reluctantly sent it and then waited and paid 2 more months DD as its now 60 days. Then i cancelled the DD, after that i got non stop letters saying i had to urgently call them, which i did and every time they said they had not received the letter so i had to send my proof of postage for the recorded in to them.

Two months later i still kept getting the dam letters and had to call again and they still thought i owed them money. Utterly shocking and i cant beleive you need to send a letter to confirm cancellation, surely there must be something in the law thats states you can cancles contracts verbally after proof of identity? No other company like this would ask you to cancel in such a way.

You shouldn't have too, although some contracts do state a letter is required in order to cancel.

In my opinion that's the safest way anyway. Send a recorded letter stating the date you are cancelling on, when your last payment will be (taking in to account your notice) and that you've sent a copy of the letter to yourself as well.

Keep all proofs of delivery and ignore any future corrospondence and cancel your DD. Forward any future letters threatening you to the appropriate body and include your evidence.

Sorted, the dirty scummers!
