January Transfer Window Thread - rumours and signings here

Just shows really that 'buying success' isn't as easy as simply throwing money at a team, that team has to be genuine contenders in the first place or the best players won't want to join it:)

It worked fine for your team and blackburn. It would be continuing to work for your team if the money for Scolari was still as available as it was previous managers.

Man City are just trying to get there too fast, the difference with chelsea is they spent stupid amounts of money before they even had it, ran up a a huge debt and got very fortunate Roman came along or they would be Leeds right now.

City are going to have to spend a season or two buying legends coming towards the end of their peak rather than superstars. Get them up nearer the top four then bring in the cream.

I think next year will be a lot different for city because they will have a much higher profile manager to sell the clubs intent to players.

Personally I'd love them to bring back mourinho to the EPL.

You've just repeated what JohnnyG said. :p

Well we're 2/3's of the way through and still nothing other than very vague rumours for Arsenal. Really hope we sign a couple of players in the next 10 days.

The other MAJOR difference is at least Chelsea have their prime location to attract players, Man Utd could never do that, so City certainly cant

Well I'm more concerned about who my team, Rangers, will end up selling come the end of the window!

THe fact we need to sell someone has become common knowledge leads me to believe a few rogue bids will come in for the talents of the team and will see someone leave on the last day :(

Also I suspect since they didn't get Kaka, City may turn to Arshavin? It's been rumoured already!

Pennant gone out on loan to Pompey till the end of the season, suppose that means we'll get nothing for him now.

Well he would be stupid to sign a new contract when is obviously not wanted.

Option 1: Sign contract and get sold in Jan/Summer so Liverpool make some money.
Option 2: Dont sign and get a big pay packet for signing for free.

Mmm...I wonder which he should choose

Teams seem to get money as well for loans these days it seems though.

We (Newcastle) were going to pay £2m (allegedly) to get Riise on loan.

I reckon you'd get about £1m for Pennant's loan, its not much but is better than nothing, although I've just plucked that figure out of thin air. :p

It would seem the Palacios deal is getting closer to being confirmed he's having a medical.

Excellent box to box player who can keep the ball and pass, something the spurs midfield has been missing for some time.

Now for Podolski :D.................... Oh it would seem I am to late he's going to Cologne at the end of the season.

Oh well Kenwyn Jones it is then ;(

Another Huddy Spurs supporter :D

I've been hearing conflicting stories about Palacios being on and off. I hope it does go through as I agree that the problem for Spurs is the midfield. I can't wait for the season to end and hopefully we'll part company with Modric. I'm sure he's a good player but he doesn't really fit in with the English game and the fact he struggles playing deep is a problem for a side that wants to play 2 forwards.

The Arshavin deal seems dead in the water. In this case I'm happy that Arsenal are sticking to their guns. At what we offered he is worth a punt but a potential waste of money paying what they want for him.

With the recent run of results in the PL, I'm not expecting any signings before the deadline comes.

I'm annoyed by it. We need an older, more experienced player in the team.

I think he'd fit nicely into our team.

Where would you expect him to play? I can't see him and RVP fitting into the same team, I think they'd be trying to play in the same space.
