I am raging at myself for this! Was reversing it onto the drive this lunchtime (after only getting the car YESTERDAY!) and since I hadn't adjusted the wing mirrors for myself yet, I couldn't see how close I was to the wall. Just grazed the bricks and took the top layer of paint off  .

The picture probably makes it look worse than it is when you look from a distance but *I know it's there* and the thought of it annoys me! Rang up a local guy who a friend recommended and he's coming out to do it Tuesday morning. The small scrapes to the right of the picture were already done, but it wasn't through the paint, just scuffs. I had planned to get it done eventually but my mishap has brought it forward! . He guessed on the phone at about £70, but I don't really care about the cost, I just want it sorted! :p . Mudguard I will replace if I can't get it to come up any better myself (not as bothered about that because it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb).

Car is a 53 plate Focus ST170 in Imperial Blue.

Anyone else done stupid things to a new car?

You.. bought the car yesterday and hadn't yet got around to adjusting the mirrors so you could see things? It takes 10 seconds, its so easy I adjust mine when parking etc to aid parking

Yes.. stupid mistake and not one I will make again! :( . This was actually my first time driving it (though I have test driven another before) as my dad picked it up for me yesterday while I was at work (was about 40miles away from home).

Ditto, infact i did this about 15 minutes ago.

Ouch!

The day after picking up my Octavia I was backing up Janes Polo so I could get in the garage. The drive was especially tight as I also had my old 306 on it. I was creaping backwards... edging closer... turned in the seat slightly to see how much space I had left, then my foot slipped off the clutch.

Slapped the Polo into my motor that I'd had for about 18 hours :p Luckily only very faint scratches were left on the front bumper where the rear bumper of the Polo rode over the top of it and these all polished out *phew* Was a testicles in the throat moment when it went crunch though :p

I cant belive that someone would buy a car, and have it for a day before adjusting the wing mirrors

But bad luck mate, hope you get it sorted.

It's not that I could literally see NOTHING in the mirror. I could see behind me, but it wasn't pointed down enough so that I could see where the wheels were going. I also didn't drive directly into the wall, it was a glancing blow and I stopped the second it touched. This car is wider than my previous car and the same manoeuvre in said previous car would likely have been fine. Just a silly mistake which I will pay for (literally) as a consequence :( .

Could have been much worse if I'd gouged/dented any of the bodywork (this is literally just the paint) or even cracked the bumper entirely.

Also, those saying that I've "had it a day", I had not even driven it. I have a company vehicle for work and I just wanted to move it off the drive and take some photos. I took the photos and moved it back onto the drive when I did this to it.

Just to make you feel better my partner picked up her Fiesta afew months back, not a single mark on it. She had only had it 5 hours and I had ago at her earlier in the day because she nearly hit my car when coming into park to fast. Second time round she missed my car and caught the corner of the wall instead :D

To make you feel better #2, i had my rear bumper sprayed a few weeks ago due to accident damage.

Less than a week after a perfect paint job, i reversed into a wall.

****** off isnt even half way there.

Unlucky Jon :(

Happenned to me on my Tiger when I dropped it on the first ride. Never a nice feeling.

You keeping the bike aswell I take it?

I did much the same, paid for a big scratch taking out of my back bumper that I put in by manhandling a petrol strimmer into my boot which annoyed me enough as it was, picked the car up, drove to safeway, bought a 10 pack of coke and put it in a bag..

back to the car, opened the boot, lifted the bag to put it in which then promptly split sending the coke slamming into the bumper in precisely the place I'd just had mended.

It was like the car saying "I liked that scratch"...

Had a friend years ago who totalled an hours old rover 200, like literally totalled.. missed a T junction oop north and went straight through a dry stone wall, took all the wheels off and the exhaust and half the engine, straight write off.

Christ that was 14 years ago!
