Hey fellas,
Watched Blade Runner last night, first film I've watched on the onkyo. Very enjoyable experience.

For the time being I'm watching DVDs on XBOX, feeding optical to the AMP (connected to Game/TV optical in) and the video straight to the tv as I don't have an HD telly. The Dolby Digital sign was in the corner, but the only setting I could seem to put it on that didn't bring up the pro-logic sign aswell, was Cinema Neo6.

Not sure if this was the right one, as I would have thought Dolby Digital was the right setting. I must be doing something numptyish.

I've got a 5 channel surround at the moment, no sub.

So, what should I have it on?

Cheers,
Ant

Dolby Digital should be the right setting. Is your xbox configured to output DD 5.1? It can be set to 2.0 and this may be the case if you are getting the pro-logic being triggered. It may also be worth checking you have the correct soundtrack selected on the DVD itself.

Should just be straight or surround decode. Dont fart about with pro logic/neo 6 etc. when you've got a proper DD5.1 stream coming in.

The Dolby Digital icon appears at the top. There are a number of listening modes under the GAME/TV connection. And I have to choose from one. Dolby Digital doesn't actually appear as one, and under some like theatre, PLII appears (pro logic). Neo6 was the only option, aside from stereo ones, that didn't display PLII aswell as the DD sign.

Xbox is set to output DD5.1. It mentions WMA support but I'm unsure as to whether or not the 606 supports this, and I've no idea what it is anyway. I'll have another play when I get back from training. Cheers for help so far.

Tried another film, came up fine. Consequently: Holy **** home cinema is awesome. It's my first venture into it, the speakers I have really don't do the amp justice, nor does my pappy 22" crt, regardless, I'm impressed.

Floorstanders are next on the list. deciding between new and second hand. Very lost :p to the google!

Easy, second hand. If your just starting out with it go for some second hand stuff as it'll be cheaper and after using it a while you'll get to know your own tastes so you won't have the potential to waste as much money buying brand new stuff further down the line.
