Right, I'm looking to take my girlfriend away for a lovely Valentines weekend in the Cotswolds. At the moment I cannot decided whether Cotswolds or Dorset. On the Cotswolds side of things I have found a couple of great hotels in Cheltenham, while with Dorset I've found a few in Salisbury.

If anyone lives or has been to either of these places and could give me any info would be great. Also, my budget is £125 a night.

Its on but you would be a lot better off staying in a small village somewhere like Bourton-on-the-Water is gorgeous!

Having grown up in the cotswolds I'd recommend elsewhere, maybe just overfamiliarity but though I love the place I've never found it particularly romantic. Then again, it's valentines day, find somewhere remote - it's not like you're planning spending lots of time sightseeing is it?

Cotswolds or North Devon I'd have said.

Dorset I struggle to associate with romantic. Tho as I live on the border of Somerset and Dorset I might be somewhat jaded on that view.

Gone for the hotel in Cheltenham as it's got jacuzzi, Turkish/steam bath, indoor swimming pool and spa at no extra cost. I know we're going to spend a lot of time in the bedroom but we want other things to do and maybe a little drive somewhere too.

Thanks for all your input

Frankly, you're ahead of the game once you're 5 feet out of Essex, so just about anywhere is good.

Nice one going for the 'swolds; you won't regret it.

:)

Good choice on the Cotswolds... J.B Priestley liked it there.

"the truth is that it has no colour that can be described. Even when the sun is obscured and the light is cold, these walls are still faintly warm and luminous, as if they knew the trick of keeping the lost sunlight of centuries glimmering about them."

The weather might be a bit cold but go for a stroll around Broadway, and maybe check out Broadway Tower. On a clear day, you can see for miles - even as far as the Severn Valley and the Welsh mountains.

If you're a Harry Potter fan (or your missus is) then pop over to Gloucester and take a tour of the cathedral... otherwise known as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardary.

I took an... erm.... work collegue to a place called Rose Cottage near Illmington on Stour which is fairly close to Stratford. Nice place, brekkie in bed, decent pub with good grub in easy walking distance but seriously dark at night, no street lights, torch essential !

Paris.... O wait.

We looked at a cottage option but they were pretty expensive. My other half booked us Eurostar return for both of us @£98 with her company payeng for this and £200 worth of hotel for 3 nights (treat yourself allowance £300py :D).

Going the weekend after valentines, can't wait to get some serious bedroom time in !!!

Have a good one !

You're going to miss the England vs Wales 6 nation match!

I've already made that mistake and will be in Shrewsbury with my gf. Plan it so you can watch it!
