College EMA Bonus

So you are in college...assuming you are 16, parents are around 35-45.

If you live with both parents and both of them work, they must have pretty low down jobs in order to earn under 30k!! (combined)
How on earth to people in their 30s or 40s earn so little? Do they have no ambitions in life?

Many people have single parents.

Agreed with Fox entirely. I admittedly earn more than EMA per week through my one day job and my internet income, but it's still stupid.

I never got EMA either. Instead, I spent all day both Sat and Sunday working, in an actual job, in order to have the same spending power as everyone else in my class who had no job.

Good system. A+.

So did I:(. Looks like your parents actually work for a living!! Bet you got a nothing towards uni too!!

How many people do you know who would have a household income as absurdly low as £30kpa? No wonder i'd never heard of it before.

What an annoying unfair system, like you i worked in a shop for my spending money.

Jez, I'd say probably at least 1/3rd of Sixth Formers get it, it's really not that uncommon.

if it is based on attendance then it shouldnt matter what your folks earn, just because you have rich parents, doesnt mean they just give you money

EMA is a joke tbh.....

Money would be better spent keeping the cost of tuition fees down for those who want to go on to university

ahah ema is like £30 a week which sucks as you have to have 100% attendance to get it every 2 weeks..

this year i get a college bursary (which i dont have to pay back) which is £320 a month and i only need 80% attendance which books my second friday off every 2 weeks LOL

Wonderful attitude. I'm sure you'll do well in life.

So even if we accept that EMA is spent on travel expenses, books, other course needs etc. (yeah right...), what's the need for a christmas bonus exactly?

Is it that hard to have 100% attendance?

just because you have rich parents, doesnt mean they just give you money

To be fair, a household income of £30k is not "that much", certainly not what I'd call rich.
And that is entirely correct, just because your parents home some money, does not mean they give you any.

Serious question. Nobody goes to college over christmas. Expenses are at a low point so there's a bonus in payouts?

mglover you really are an idiot aren't you?

You assume everyone who's household income is less than £30k is a scrounger. You assume that every student wastes the money they recieve and you attack anyone who is entiteld to it, well done to you.
