Killzone 2 - Enter The Killzone

Just preordered both Socom & Killzone 2 even though I have store credit I'm not taking the chance of it being out of stock.

25th Feb is now officially a bank holiday as far as I'm concerned :D

is the official headset any good? i'm gonna need headset at some point but i was thinking of just going for the playstation eye to kill 2 birds with one stone... hows the mic on that?

Mic on the eye is very good, its what I use. 9/10.

The official headset is fantastic, looks good, sounds good, feels good (comfortable) and comes with a handy charging cradle. When in the cradle it also acts as a wide-area microphone like the ps-eye so several people can use it in say, little big planet. Little things like being able to check its charge level like you would for a controller are nice touches too.

The playstation eye really shouldn't be used as a substitute for a headset in noisy games like resistance 2 that have voice activated chat. This will result in basically every noise being channeled back to everyone on the server; very annoying to be on the recieving end of, i make a habit of muting those people instantly. I don't need to hear everything in echo. I'm not sure whether KZ2 will have voice activated chat, so it could work if it's push-button but i wouldn't risk it.

I've been reading about Guerilla games because i have the same queries as you. It looks like they're an incredibly talented bunch of people, both Sony and Microsoft displayed interest in purchasing them in order to secure their future titles, the failure of Killzone 1 seems to have scared off Microsoft (who were suffering in the console market at that point anyway) but Sony bought them regardless.

I can only think there must be other evidence we don't know of that secured them as such a hot property among the console developers such as a tech demo or previous experience. Sony are excellent at running the hype machine (but often pap at delivering) and i'm sure they'd do this for any of their 1st party developers which is adding to the excitement. They've also got excellent taste in choosing developers to buy or form, examples of which would be media molecule or evolution studios, both of which were unheard of when they were purchased, yet have produced some excellent titles. As i say, there's comething to Guerilla that Sony know but we don't.

But yes, there is something unexplainable that makes Guerilla games into an exciting developer, all they've delivered so far is a pap game and a good handheld game yet nobody seems to be able to get enough of them.

In the past they had been an incredibly mediocre developer. I had the original PS2 Killzone, as well as the PC game Shellshock: Nam 67. I believe these two entries are the only other shooters they have made. Luckily it would appear they had a staff overhaul since then. If you played those two games, then Killzone 2 right after (the multiplayer beta at least) you would not be able to tell at all that this is from the same guys who did Shellshock.

It's like they say, third time's the charm.

(edit: yeah I know they did liberation too, but it's a vastly different project for a handheld)

Game looks crazy, ill defo be grabbing a copy.

Chuck me on the PSN list! ill be down for some Multiplayer when this baby drops.

PSN: Mull1t

just read the review in playstation magazine, it gets a big thumbs up. (not sure how reliable they are) but it does seem to me that this game will live up to the hype.
Had £30.00 in loyalty money so it's gone on a preorder.

Just found this for £33 so cancelled my previous pre order and wacked in a new one, get a free theme as well!

oh yes... i forgot about the annoying reverb that can happen. i take it when you use the headset, all that you will hear is when other people speak and the game sounds will come out of the normal speakers?

i think ill just wait till release before i choose my mic, see what options there is (push to talk would be nice) and hopefully some price drops :D. i may have to buy both the eye and the headset lol >.<

Why would you buy the Playstation Eye:confused: Is there some form of support for it in Killzone 2?

because the eye has a built in mic and i was thinking about getting the eye anyway for LBP

Ahhhhhhhh... yeah, i knew the camera had a microphone and thats probably why you were getting it. I just thought it was strange that you said you would get both. I assumed you only wanted voice chat ability, which naturally, the official sony bluetooth headset rules over camera microphone.

Yeah, voice audio comes out of the headset and game audio through your speakers.
