Apple quietly updates white MacBook with Unibody specs

So for the same money you now get that newer generation 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo processor with faster 1,066MHz frontside bus, 2GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory standard (up from 1GB), and integrated NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics. Whitey is still stuck with DDR2 SDRAM though, not the speedier DDR3 found in the unibodies.

Disk drive and other specs (including Firewire 400) appear to be the same.

Bluetooth also received a bump from 2.0 to 2.1 as well.
 
I would get this over the Unibody anyday now!

The Unibody Macbook is so close in price to the Pro that it's a no brainer to go for the pro imo.
 
Seems a bit like the way the Xbox 360 Elite was the one with HDMI, then it quietly filtered down to all the cheaper models. Presumably buying common components in greater bulk works out at a similar price to manufacturing two different configurations.

You should read "Predictibly Errational".

I just picked it up from an online bookstore, and it's an amazing read :)

Actually explains the reasons why businesses price things to encourage the "bah it's only £xxx more.. I'll go for the better one" culture. I advise you to check it out.

I'm reading this at the moment and it does indeed explain this sort of behavior. Only half way through but a good read.

Not really, i would have still gone for my unibody macbook even if the base pro unibody was just £50 more. 13.3" screen and extra portability is key for some people :)
 
Brilliant. See my next laptop now :). Preferred the white one, but i do like the silver one, but the white one ill probably order!
 
I bought a 2.4ghz white macbook from the refurb store late last year (£600), would I be able to upgrade the graphics to the nvidia card somehow or is it all integrated?

Yeah. When i studied a bit of Business Studies at college they went through this pricing structure with us. I shall take a look at the book! :)
