8800GTX to ATI HD 4850

It's faster but not by a huge amount and there are a few games that fun faster on the 8800GTX E.G. GTA 4

Aye, 8800GTX/4850 are pretty much all you need if you aren't exceeding 1680x1050.

Get a better card when you get a bigger screen / when games become more demanding.

Isn't GTA 4 very hungry for V ram? hence the GTX performing better due to having 768MB as opposed to 512 on the 4850,maybe the 1GB 4850 would be a better option, can be had for not much more than the 512 version now.

I cannot believe I have something that cost me £120 and is on par with an 8800GTX considering what they cost in their prime days. :)

The joys of hardware huh?

Maybe that or maybe drivers. Don't know but I have seen two otherwise identical systems running the game at 1680x1050 with default settings. The system with the 8800gtx got avg. 50 FPS and the 4850 39 FPS. Maybe ther cat 9.1s will change this.

8800GTX to 4850 won't gain you much, I've used both cards including the 8800 Ultra...the Ultra felt like a stock 4850 to me, the 8800GTX not too much different just a few FPS lower but only if you kept an eye on the FPS meter.
