I have had a Tesco DVD rental (powered by Love Film) account for years and have just got a Blu Ray player. I have added a load of Blu Ray disks onto my list (about half), a lot of them as priority titles. Since I did this I have had one Blu Ray disk and six DVDs from much lower down my list. None of the Blu Rays have any delay symbols.

It seems as though DVDs are being sent out in preference of Blu Rays, anyone else found this? I am not really complaining as obviously the DVDs are ones I want to watch but I want to get my fill of HD! Maybe I should remove all of the DVDs from my list and see what happens then.:D

Anyone have better Blu Ray rental from elsewhere?

easy to solve, set up a second list, give it all your allowance. Then only stick blu-rays in it.

It's essential with lovefilm, even for normall dvds.

Yep. Go to add/edit dics. I have 1 called DVD's and the other Blu Ray. The you dray the dics icons to whatever list you want so I currently have 2 on BD and 1 on DVD. Simple.

Although I do notice that Lovefilm don't send me my top BD choices as much as i'd like.

I had a Lovefilm subscription earlier in the year but cancelled it.

I was finding that no matter what priority I set my titles to, they sent me stuff miles down my list, and then when I removed titles to try and "force" them to send me the titles I wanted, I got sent nothing, instead harassed with emails to add stuff to my list!

And forget Blu-Ray, I never got a single one despite having several on high priority.

I wouldn't bother, just use a local shop.

I have been having the same problem.

I was constantly being sent things on my low priority list, which in my opinion should only be sent when all other options were exhausted. Some of them I was not even sure I would defo rent - just put them ther as a reminder.

Was also being sent almost stricly DVD's when I had over 50 Blu-Ray's. I have recently removed everything but Blu-Ray's and even some Blu-Ray's I was not sure of. I have only had my first lot delyaed by one day, and will see how it goes.

If there are constant delays, I will drop the service. I think though that they need to seriously increase their Blu-Ray stock.

Thanks for the replies, I cannot see how to add a new list on the Tesco site. Maybe it is different to the Love Film method? I know that they share disks but the user interface must be different.

Anyway, I have removed a load of DVDs from my list to increase the odds.

The only disk on my list with a delay symbol is Tropic Thunder, all others imply that they are ready to go. Will give it a few more exchanges before ringing them - not that that will do anything!

I have been with them for a few years and find that their problem is not prioritising their custom. I used to like Lovefilm because I could rent a film without having to buy it just to see what it was like. I don't often request DVD's so just watch Blu-Ray or HD DVD's. And sometimes I find it of benefit if I buy from them because I get a free rental or two.
Unlike most I cannot go to the cinema so I rely a lot on my home system. Gradually they are cutting down on the amount of time you have films which is of no good to me. Recently they have cut the Film extra down to 7 days or you get charged for it. So my buying from them doesn't add up. Especially when I don't receive the film for 4 out of the 7 which leaves me 1 or 2 days to watch it and send it back. And I am on an Unlimited rental plan.

Are those subscriptions actually worth it?

Have sky with everything, but there's been naf all on recently, should I go for a subscription?

If you find naff all on the current sky HD movies list then its doubtful you would find much worth renting, ive found the HD movies great since they introduced the new channels, they have some quality older movies coming on now, really looking forward to seeing Shindlers List this weekend in HD, it should look stunning in black and white.

The priority thing is crap as is the pre-ordering for a rental. You'd think a system where you can register interest in a title before it's released would mean it'd add it to your list as high priority when it comes out...ooooo nooo.

Also LF are a bit crap. When you take out their 3 month *free* rental as an old customer they try and do a pre-auth on your card. This failed on mine (no reason at all as there's no problem, even checked with the bank) so they wanted one month's rental up front before I could use the 3 months....******** I think! Not used them since.

simple, put all the crap ones you dont wanna watch as priority titles and put all ya BD at the bottom of the list :D failing that, wipe the list clean and just add the blu rays. then when there is a dvd you want just add it to the list when you are ready for it

I'm on the 3 month trial just started first movie out was near bottom of list on low priority. Cant see me staying after the 3 months. Still its free :D

I'm on LoveFilm purely for the Blus. DVDs are dirt cheap these days, but I can't stomach the £12ish for the movies on blu-Ray. I'm always getting Blu-Rays :). I learned long ago that the prioritisation doesn't work because everybody else wants the same movies you do (unless you have more esoteric tastes).

So I only add films I really want to see, whereas when I first started I stuck average films on 'because I've already paid for it, see?' I'm pretty happy with the service.

I've been getting Blu-rays & DVD's from Lovefilm for quite a while now and have been successfuly getting a good selection. So much so that I now only have 5 blu-rays left in my list and I'm thinking of taking a payment holiday. I've calculated that I've watched something like 170 Blu-rays since I got my PS3 and god knows how many DVDs. I have Rescue Dawn (BD) at home plus Hancock (BD) & Forgetting Sarah Marshall (BD) should be on my doormat when I get home :D.

What are you people messing about at ?

Well, I have now removed all but a few essential DVDs from my list and will (hopefully) be enjoying some high defenition entertainment next week.

I must have just been unlucky this week and last.

Thank you for all your thougths.

I see your point. I still get to watch everything I want just not the exact film when. And if you want that then you should travel every time to your local blockbuster, hope they have what you want in stock let alone even there at all and pay £4 for every film.

I pay £12.99 a month for 3 flims at once and get on average 10-15 discs a month which would cost more like £50 if your rented them from BB. Or buy them all at a cost of more like £200 a month!!

Yes, it's cheaper.

The problem is the priority list is quite useless. It's nots bad service, but it's not a great service either.

Still, will see how I get on with it in the next couple of weeks.

Just got Bluray films on my list, but they still send me the **** I added to make the list 10 minimum. Can't complain as I am on a trial still. Will renew with another card when it expires in April :)

I would be interested in buying more from lovefilm if their prices were more realistic. I went on their site yesterday and looked at the double pack of National treasure. Lovefilm was £32+ and Play was £23.99. you can guess where I made the purchase. Also Lovefilm take up to (sometimes more) 4 days to get the title in Whereas if you go to Play they state on their site if it is in stock or not. And in some circumstances they will make little perma statements telling you if there is a long or short wait for stock.
The longest I have ever waited from Play was 7 days and that was one that went missing in the post backin the days when they sent everything by recorded delivery. Over the years I must have purchased over 500 dvd's from Play so I guess a good delivery service pays. Keeping customers happy pays as well and keeps them coming back. When HMV placed a store in Jersey to compete against Play they still made the mistake of being a High st. store and very soon they were wondering why they were losing trade in the stores still. Perhaps if they realised that they were selling a HD or Blu-Ray title for £10 more instore they would relise this, but they failed to and so it still took about a year and a half to catch up.
Since then Game have placed stores based in the Channel Islands to try to recompense losses but with Play going to PlayTrade as well has put them beyond the competition's realms of trade. As far as Game go they sell Pre-owned games instore but they are near to retail than anything else.
When are these big companies going to relise that a good happy customer base is worth more than the amount of profit base made on a single sell when making 10 customers happy makes the same profit and increases your threshold for sale and replenishing your customer base.
The whole rental issue is the same and requires the same effort. The problem with Lovefilm is that they are now embroiled in between the 2 Supermarkets ASDA and Tesco for rental as well as their own customer base which leads to another conflict of interest. I know This may sound longwinded but can you now see where I am going?
It seems that Lovefilm has given a lot of its custom to names like Tesco and Asda while failing to look out for it's own customerbase. I have tried to communicate this in the past to them but I find that simply having rental breaks and by not adding to my list more pleasing than waiting for the next movie to arrive. I have noticed that they don't specify audio output of a specific title and often have to visit other sites to find out. A new site currently dealing soley in Blu-Ray releases is available and can be checked out at AVforums. I have not seen anything for sale on the site but as it is sponsored by the main studios it has all the updates about all the new releases and their adio and video output. perhaps this may be of some help to some of you when prioritising.
