people keep saying i should purchase the HD450 rather than the evga 9800 gtx+.

i was just wondering if this is the case which HD4850 should i buy?

Stick with 9800GTX, overclock it to GTX+ specs and your laughing.

Too many games are coded for Nvidia cards these days that the little 4850 will just be running Nvidia optomised code.

get the gtx+ it will run cooler and use less power than the gtx becaise its 55nm instead of the gtx's 65nm

Hmmm, I smell fanboy. Go and look at some benchmark results please before writing rubbish.

To the OP....this is probably the best 4850 out there; small overclock and non-standard cooler.

Both good cards: you won't go wrong with either.

Radeon is slightly faster in most games, but the 9800GTX+ is faster in Crysis. If you've got a Crossfire-capable motherboard, then go for the 4850... if it's SLI-capable, get the 9800GTX+.

9800GTX+ seems better to me : http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-9800-gtx-512mb-plus-review/1

And was calling me a fan boy really needed?? By the way you jumped at my comment one could assume that you're an ATI fanboy and i struck a nerve :p

The 9800 'should' be quieter, overclock better, run cooler and use less power and there is no argument when i say that when it comes to drivers Nvidia **** all over ATI :)

You need to look at reviews with latest drivers not something months old,but saying that they about the same, i would more likely get the Get HIS IceQ Turbo 4850 myself if i was looking at both cards as it is a bit cheaper.

Actually, I'm an Nvidia fanboy if anything; I've always preferred Nvidia cards, but right now there's nothing that can touch my 4870X2 in terms of price/performance. It really irks me though when people make unsubstantiated statements based on pointless brand loyalty.

Have a look at this review:

The 4850 beats the 9800GTX+ in every game by 5-20 frames, or is within two to three frames of it. How's that for 'Nvidia optomised code'?

Fact is, both cards are good options for the money, but the 4850 has a more proven track record and is cheaper :)

I've basically had both cards (vmodded 8800GTS 512mb to 900core/2.3ghz shader) and the 4850 at stock OWNS the vmodded gts as soon as you put any AA on.

Both are about the same but the 4850 is a good £30 cheaper so it's a no brainer really, you'd want to get one with custom cooler though.

The GTX+ maybe 55nm but with its huge speed bump over the old GTX I doubt it's much more power effecient than the old version, if at all. Also it requires 2 PCI-E 6-pin connectors while the 4850 only needs one.

If you have the money for a GTX+ I'd add extra £5 and get the 1Gb 4850.

Point one: It 'seems' better to you because you're reading what you want to read. In most of those tests it's usually too close to call, and often the 4850 is taking the upper hand.

Point two: Not gonna touch this one.

Point three: Fluff. All of it. The reason many reviewers don't show very high overclocking gains from the 4850 is because of two factors. A: The crap stock cooler, but we suggested the IceQ (which is still cheaper than the cheapest 9800 GTX+ on this site) version. B: CCC has a hard limit on most 4850's that when using ATi's overdrive tool, won't allow the card to clock very far (max is 700MHz). This can be remedied because better, badder tools support 4800 overclocking now.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapphire/HD_4850/29.html
(18.56% overclock - 625 -> 741MHz)

http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-9800-gtx-512mb-plus-review/11
(16.89% overclock - 740 -> 860MHz)

Again, yeah, we suggested the IceQ version for a reason. Still cheaper than the GTX+.

ATi's drivers were fine for me (although I haven't had a chance to use them for a while as I've been using a GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB for the last year, since I upgraded from my X1650 Pro). That's not to say ATi drivers are error free, you can see that some users get that annoying driver crash (apparently caused by low voltages and powerplay), but then some nvidia users get a comparable error, so again, swings and roundabouts.

I've owned both, a 1 gig Powercolor 4850 and a 9800 GTX+ Palit card which I am using now. Get which ever you can find cheaper. Either would suit your gaming needs, I can't tell the difference between the 2, Nvidia drivers tend to be better and the 9800 is less noisy. I'd be happy with either.

the 9800gtx+ smokes the 4850,dont listen to the hype,
ive owned both i know, look here for a bench test,
http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/429766-geforce-9800gtx-thread.html

Shhh, people in here dont lissen to someone who has owned them...

Ive owned a sapphire 4870 and when i said my old 8800GT SLI was faster they didn't like it...

Benchmarks are just 'guides'

There completely different in the real world.....my SLI system always got higher framerate then the review cards did despite running same clocks and drivers....

Im on OCN aswel btw :D

Above not true, my 1Gb 9800GTX+ cost £146, requires 1x 6 pin pci-e, has a Zalman cooler and runs at 45C while gaming. Its a Gigabyte model and so far its played everything I've thrown at it. Both are excellent cards by the way , do your own research and pick the card you want.:)
