if you were a 'phone a friend

For some reason I find myself watching old episodes of who wants to be a millionaire.

Anyway, I was thinking, if my friend got on the show and he used me as a phone a friend, and say I got the queston correct which won him, say £100,000, would be be wrong of me to feel that I should get a little 'somin somin'?

Would you ask or would you wait till he offers?

I mean if it was me I would atleast give, £5000 as a thankyou.

And what's to to stop me from doing a quick ninja google search to get the answer?

id make a joke and say "wheres mine :P " in a joking way ;)

It's not filmed live, therefore your 'phone a friend' will not have a chance to google it.

They are told to stay in when its beig filmed though if they are someone phone a friend.

I have never understood why their friends arent just googling it all the time.

If I was a phone-a-friend, I'd be googling the **** out of it. With a measured 72wpm typing speed I'd pretty much be able to type the question as they ask it.

It does make you wonder whether the friend really is just sitting at home, or is at the studio under control conditions.

There's a video on YouTube and the guy in the chair says something like "Look up...." and you can hear the guy on the phone turning pages IIRC.

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever seen an episode where the first "phone a friend" hasn't answered?

Imagine expecting it that night but needing a poo. Sitting on the bog, the phone rings and you're like "NOOOOOOOOOO!"

This really makes me wonder too!!

surely when you know your friend is going in the show you would be told to stay home. I'd be preped and have 100 tabs of google opened.

all computers and laptops open, mix of windows and linux, friends laptops as well. With loads of people in the room including all my most intelligent friends.

There are 5 phone-a-friends and they're all called just before the contestant gets in the chair to make sure the numbers are right and they're in.

so your sitting on your PC trying to find some good porn, and the phone rings, your like ok fine...

bla bla bla, whats the answer?

google = 1.5 seconds while you say ummmmmm...errrr

its only 4 answers, you wouldnt even need to go into the webpage, just read it on results page

back on topic, my friends would pay for something big, depending how much they won, like 100k would probably result in a holiday for them + 3/4 extra people with everything paid by them, as would i, and an expensive one at that, like £2k per person for 1 week, i wouldnt ask for anything, and if i won the money, they wouldnt have a chance to ask, or a choice id just be like, "get in the car" --- "where are we going" "to the airport"

I would want something - I dont think I would ask out right for it, maybe slip it into a convo, and see if they bite... but I would blurt out "£5k plx!" next time I saw them!

But if this is the case should the audiance also be rewarded with a £10 each or something if they use that option?

I'm surprised how many people would expect a large monetary reward for doing what is quite literally a 30 second favour for a friend.

If a close friend of mine won a large amount I would maybe think he might treat all his friends to something (not money) but I wouldn't expect it.

I think you'd have to agree beforehand whether you were going to give anything to them. I'd so something like 10% of whatever amount they helped me win on that question.
