UK is "officially" in recession

Why tell us something we already know? the only useful part of that is the actual drop in GDP.

We know we are in a recession, why do we have to wait for the "Yes we ARE in a recession".

No **** shirlock.

Run out of valium, have we? There were a lot of people on these forums saying we weren't actually in a recession because of exactly the reasons the article states.

Anyone saw when that recession came? And why let it in ffs? Stupid new labour immigration policy...

We haven't really had a proper immigration policy under either Labour or the last Conservative government. The extent of British immigration policy is to react every time some neanderthal tabloid like the Daily Mail or Express runs an article with more impact than the daily xenophobic tripe it prints.

What the heck it has to do with a recession though you'll have to explain?

I believe it was poor attempt at humour with a twist of sarcasm.....

...a global financial banking crisis (the widley established cause of the current recession?)

I think it's wrong to compartmentalise the recession like that. The politicians and media would like a single well defined cause that can be neatly addressed allowing business as usual to continue in a couple of years. I think the causes are far more complex and can't be summed up in a few word soundbite as the media/politicians would like.
