Well after weeks of deliberation, I finally decided on a 4870x2, got around to installing it today with some other bits, and all I can say is wow !

I had no problems with drivers or any other technicalities, just uniinstalled my nvidia stuff, and installed 8.12, straight on no probs.

Crysis is like playing a new game, I swear even windows is more responsive lol.

It's DAMN loud tho, anything over about 40% fan speed and

Idle temps are around 40/42 degrees in windows, and jump to about 70degrees in crysis @ 50% fan speed, this is at standard clocks.

So i can recommend to anyone thinking about a x2, go for it you wont be disapointed !

I have mine set up with four fan profiles - 32% fan, 40% fan, 50% fan and 60% fan. 60% kicks in if it goes over 92c; in Crysis it has to use 50%, but pretty much everything else is happy with 40%.

Remember that these cards are designed to run hot!
Turn the fan speed down a little if its a little loud.

Just keep an eye on the temps of the rest of your system (CPU ect) as these might go a little higher too because of it.

My temps are around 45 - 50 C with the fan around the mid 30's. I was thinking of taking the shroud off, had a go actually but tbh I couldn't be sure how to do it without perhaps causing damage. The other alternative is to make a profile as one of the other members above mentioned. I tried this but I can't find the profiles folder in the ATI folder. Thought it went something like ATI.ACE then profiles. When you guys create a profiles can someone type exactly what they key in please. I like the idea of having the clocks dropped very low to around 200 - 300 for 2D. Many thanks.

From a GTX 260-216, and tbh the difference is quite noticable, I was expecting it to be a bit faster ofcourse, but im impressed.

Are my temps pretty average then ?

I went the other way X2 > 216 and there's a definite difference but im not sure its as big as the cost difference.

ocuk have a b-grade EK block in stock for around the xspc price. Might have a scratch or something though :/
