LOTRO Free Trial and anyone still play?

Definitely look to join a kin once you get out of the first couple of areas. Many of the more experienced members of a kin will be looking to level up an alt and so you should have no trouble finding people to game with.

For those of you who have played before and have been thinking about coming back I see they are running a Welcome Back week soon...

They did this a while ago, i tried it again but it felt too lonely. I think im on the busyist server too. Spent ages trying to find a party in the area next to the lone lands (to the right on the map).
Ill give it ago again though.

Definately worth it, im on a less populated server on Gilrain and it is still busy even during the daytime :)

As stated above, if anyone needs a nice mature, casual, light RP (i.e. totally optional) Kin on Laurelin just let me know. Either drop me an email (in trust) or add Carathir as a friend in game.

At the very least its somewhere to hang your hat and another chat channel to spam with questions and banter.

We have lots of hardcore players and loads that logon once a week for a couple of hours with everything in between. Lots of level variation and to be honest most of the guys are very helpful at getting people levelled up or through a particularly tough segment of quests.

If anyone needs a hand, give me a shout.

Great I'll give you a shout tonight low level burglar and a captain seeing which one fits. Liking the burglar at the mo.

Been looking forward to trying this, I'm updating now but I wouldn't be surprised if it's still updating in the morning.

Not sure what server to hit up first though, should I take their advice and try a low population server? Also, these role playing servers, do you lot prefer them?

The community's generally a bit nicer on the RP server. You still get the odd muppet, but there's a lot of nice people around.

I wasn't sure about the RP servers, so I gave Eldar a go. Quite liking it so far, but it seems pretty baron. Have I chosen a deserted server or something?

Mostly seems to be the knock on effect of the Moria expansion, its only 10 levels but takes a surprisingly long time to do, I think more people are raiding for longer than they did before aswell. The lvl 50 raid content was incredibly long winded and after 2-3 runs I was bored out of my mind and hadn't gotten anything good gear wise, I really did it just to see it. This time around the raid content is more easily farmable and quickly and easier to get teams for so people are getting their armour and spending more time getting it, rather than giving up as before.

I've just rolled a new hunter, which seems fairly silly as I have a 60 hunter but its the most fun class to play through the game with IMHO. I'm leveling a few others a bit at a time aswell, theres plenty of people I'm running into on Snowborne. Bear in mind theres really very little content you need a team for in up to lvl 20-25, and people get a little bored of waiting for members, when its content that is mostly solo-able even if listed as group quests. Lone Lands has plenty of fellowship stuff but the majority of people seem to hate the lone lands so get in, quick through the solo stuff and smeg off. North downs is really where you should find no problems getting teams from then on for anything you want.

I think as more and more people learn where all the quests are though soloing stuff is becoming more common as waiting around for a team, to do easy quests is becoming a drag. I tend to mostly solo, build up a long list of group quests and when i've got loads to do look for a team, invariably other people have several big group quests to do and you can go through loads of them in one team and I think other people are doing the same.

But I've been in and out of kins, if you're in a kin thats fairly large you'll generally find it completely different, people logging in alts of similar levels to give you a hand with quests, people happy to give you a hand even if they don't need the quest.

I am on snowbourne and find its quite busy around Bree-Land during the day but at night it is pretty dead! Quite a few requests for teams however I've managed to do all the missions so far bar one without team and that was the spider queen one when I first started!

Currently got a lvl 17 Human Burgler, a lvl 7 Elf Hunter and a lvl 7 Human Minstrel.

Finding them all pretty fun to play with and my 14 day trial ran out yesterday so I purchased a month to carry on playing :)

Anyone know why my weaponsmith skill has hit the first 200XP and now won't go any further? Is it a known bug?

Ignore, think I've figured it out!

yeah you've got to do an advancement quest :p

i'm on snowbourne too, i've not bothered grouping very much yet - only twice really, it's the one thing i quite like about it, i haven't been forced to. i've got 4 chars on the go ranging from a lvl 6 Rune Keeper to my main which is a 23 hunter, all on Snowbourne, all with some version of "badga" in the name. it'll be cool to team with you guys :)

i forgot to say im on Laurelin currently using these chars -> tyga(cpt) : araya(burg) : saurazgul(guard) : Charvel(loremaster) , however i do like my creeps so im not always about but if anyone needs help or advice send a tell or mail. Im waiting for my Huntard 'eek' to tfr from snowbourn over to laurelin so might be using that until its completed.

those new to the game wont realise but the first 30 levels or so can be done mostly solo as the Quests have been made easier to allow new players to do more. Later on the game does get tougher and you will need to form groups and work together to get them completed.

also, those new to the game may find some quests extremely daunting when trying to locate the place so take a peak at theis handy map tool
http://dynmap.ruslotro.com/ , failing that slap me ingame and i'll do my best to help.

Can you transfer single characters (ie. rather than all your characters) from one server to another? Might do that with my captain.

it doesnt transfer your 'account' as such, just one of the characters you have and costs £11 iirc .. oh and you cannot move a char back to its original server so chose wisely.

Snowbourn was my first server through beta to full release however once i sampled Laurelins RP community it was superb, very helpful and more mature. Alos, being heavilly into the Ettenmoors and creep play it has action in abundence although the latest expansion has currently ruined that side of it.

Yeah same here, I wouldn't move back off Laurelin. It's actually a lot busier, and all the RP nuts hanging around Bree really bring the place to life. Nice to know I can just transfer a single toon.

lol RP nuts.... :D

Anyone bought the unlimited subscription?

Thinking about getting it.

I'm surprised at how quickly the 1st 7 or so levels go.

I'm not yet used to the skill then I get a newer one nor do I know what half the tabs are about.... suppose i'll get used to them too?

The flood of new skills and abilities starts to slow dramatically from 30 onwards, it's one of the weak points of the game that you don't have as much to look forwards to as far as character advancement goes.

At that stage though a lot of the more interesting traits are starting to kick in, it helps to keep things interesting as you level.

Even the traits can occasionally be depressing! I was quite excited about finding my first class book (Bullroarer's boy) and I spent a fair bit of money on the AH getting the missing pages, said excitement continued right up until I completed it, slotted the legendary trait and went off to test out the new skill. In theory it's meant to make every single enemy around me focus purely on me for 30 seconds so others can get a breather, but in practice the animation for it takes 5 seconds, during which time everyone else is still attacking/healing and building up enough threat to override it. So it takes a few seconds to build up the gambit (fist+spear+fist+spear+fist), then I'm frozen out of the battle for 5 seconds, and it ends up not helping anyone at all...woohoo... :o
