As I said before, cut the lad some slack. He will be in for it, lets hope his CO has a backbone and won't buckle to the opinions of Daily Mail readers.
I bet a lot of Daily Mail readers like myself will be perfectly sympathetic towards the soldier

The idea that there could be a reciprocal duty owed to the community never even crosses the public's mind.
Read the comments on the Daily Mail link - the soldier has plenty of support there![]()
There most certainly is.
One thing puzzles me, if the incident took place earlier in the week (as I gather from the reports, please correct me if I am wrong), why are the trees in full leaf? I suspect this is old, and the papers have only just got hold of it.

Although a quick re-read of the article doesn't seem to mention when it happened, unless I missed it.

You don't have to touch someone to assault them. It could be argued he was acting in self-defence.All that was happening was a tourist making fun of someone, how can you justify that as an offence when no one is being harmed? It's would be a victimless crime like so many others these days.
I would've stuck my bayonet up that boys trumpet.

He has disrespected the country and the Queen, no mater what you think, the guardsmen bring in a lot of tourism, does this set a good or bad example to tourism, do we want a load of tourists acting like that in the country.
He broke he is not good enough for the job. Simple, would and officer risk putting him out again knowing the reaction he takes? Look a the bayonet, ffs.
Then the same stands for the guardsmen. But he wasn't assaulting him under any definition otherwise he would have been arrested, assault is illegal, this was not.

There are loads of idiots in real life. You don't assault them, whether you're a guardsmen or not.
To be honest they should throw the book at him, the guardsmen are awesome and it would show how strict they are, even at their own kind.
He is also a human and they are all prone to a bad day.
What was going on behind the scenes ? Marriage difficulties ? Bad news ? Who knows. It is unprecedented for a guard to do that but I give him the benefit of the doubt, no matter how unprofessional it looks but I only give it once.
On the subject of disrespect, perhaps Mr Tourist will think twice next time.
Without modern technology and the ability for this incident to have been easily videoed, we would never have known about it. It may have happened in the past. He did wrong dd, no argument there but those who bay for blood don't seem to take it in context or proportion.
Is it wrong for me to think that the smug grin on the kid's face turning non smug was amusing ?
