Hi

Got a GTX 280 coming on monday, but only got 2 x 6pin PCI-E connectors on the PSU, so will have to use a 2x molex to 8pin convertor jobbie (hopefully will come with one). But will it be ok to run both molex ends off one power cable? (that also powers a 120m LED low rpm fan) - it would just be a lot less messy that way.

thanks
joe

If the card comes with a 2 x 6pin to 1x8pin you should use that for the 8 pin

Usually also come with a 2x 4pin molex to 6pin which should be powered from two different molex cables not the same one.

Molex to 8pin graphics connector don't exist. If you are lucky then your card will come with a 2x6pin to 8pin converter and a 2x molex to 6pin converter. If not then you will need to source these from somewhere before you will be able to use the card.

Whats that then? hmmmmm (pls remember the 8pin is supposed to carry upto 150w of power, each molex needs to be on seperate source from PSU, and hopefully its a good psu with seperate 12v on each source)

With my ATi card, you can use 2 x 6pin, if you want Overdrive, you need 1 x 8pin, or mod it so that the 2 spare pins get good ground, google it, easily done.
Unsure on NV products though, it might force to have 8 pin.

The 2 extra pins are both earths, all you have to do is loop over from the other earths and it will work as intended.

I'm using this solution, and it works superbly:
