Looking to see what anyone might suggest.

Requirements:

Needs to be able to go up and down any height kerbs without damage.
Needs to be capable of a 40 mile motorway journey in relative comfort.
Needs to be capable of going over speed humps repeatedly without damage.
Needs to be as economical as possible. Diesel is preferred if possible.

Automatic gearbox a bonus
Steel wheels a bonus
Doesn't need any street cred!

Current ideas are something like a Suzuki Vitara / Dihatsu 4trak (but worried about motorway) or a Vauxhall Vectra diesel but I'm not sure it'd be rugged enough.

Looking forward to any suggestions you might have? £500-1500 if there is anything in that range.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The car will get about 7 hours use per day so whilst I'm really really tempted by something big I think the fuel economy will be just too poor. It's got to be better than my M3 evo which does 28ish MPG being light footed otherwise it's not really worth the extra car.

Also, forgot to mention, tight turning circle is useful as well, so a bigger car might not be better.

Oh and the speed humps are a normal size. Just lots of them!

Yes it's for take away food delivery. It's just it's a 40 mile round journey from home to get there.

How on earth is this going to pay for itself doing takeaway food delivery?! The wages are terrible and it royally ****'s your car, town driving constantly is a complete car killer, having to do a 40 mile round trip just to the area makes it even worse!

You need something utterly dull and worthless yet effortlesly reliable. a Toyota Carina or something?

You also need to think really carefully about how utterly retarded this idea actually is :p

It pays more than selling new cars at a premium brand does right now, from my experience over the last few weeks. Anyway the job is my partners not mine but I was wondering if the M3 could be saved some abuse. :)

Its more the stop start nature of the food delivery job that I wouldn't want to be placing on the M3's engine.

What a horrible way to treat such a car :(

Bet the engine is happier plodding around town than when it's on a trackday. 400+bhp on nitrous at brands hatch is quite good fun. :D

north poll? :D

Pug 205 diesel, steelies, economical, not bad suspension....

EDIT: Hilux is a better suggestion, tho I'm not sure if you'd get a roadworthy one for a grand...
