I want any old trash I can get for about £50 and insure for a few hundred as a 18 year old new driver. Then dump it/sell it after a year and get a Land Rover SIII when the insurance will be cheaper.

Thanks :)

Insurance will not be cheap. I had a £500 Punto when I was 18. I had two year no claims from my bike carried over with Churchill and was still paying £1400 as I had just passed my car test.

At one stage when I Was buggering about with the Punto I bought a Volvo 440 off eBay for £50 tax and tested. Sold it a few months later for £200. I think I was just very lucky with the auction as eBay wasn't full of resourceful people back then, but it will be your best bet apart from potential friends and family "barn finds".

I can get insurance of a defender/series III land rover (1980's models) for about £950/a from the NFU once I've been driving for a year.

Is there any sheds you could recommend? Can you not get an early 80's metro or something for a tenner?

If you're not bothered about what car you get, why are you asking for advice? :p

Just go to your local auction, or ebay.

A few hundred for insurance is very optimistic.

You will find you could go 3rd party on something you bought for 20p and still pay over £1000.

I think your going to get a shock when you realise how much it costs to drive! It does not matter how old and cheap your car is, its still going to cost a lot to insure at 18 even 3rd party.

A lot of stuff on ebay that runs with T&T seems to go for £100+ so you won't find a metro for £10-50 unless you are lucky or know someone!

I know insurance can cost thousands for a new driver, but I was hoping it might be cheaper on some old POS, seems not though. Ah well, I'll just save up for a Land Rover Series III then if I'm going to have to pay thousands on insurance anyway.

old landrovers around here (yorkshire) are driven by what appears to be young baseball cap wearing chavs. Seriously they seem to think their beat up old landrover is somekind of pimp mobile!

Also you REALLY don't want to be driving around in a 30 year old Metro unless you enjoy fixing your car all the time :p.

I drive a 10 year old Rover 200 and am finding that quite expensive to keep on the road at the mo..
