Ive decided to buy a 360 due to more of my mates having them and im wondering...

Im wanting to get a silient one, hopefully as quiet as my PS3...
Now i've read a few threads on here and other sites about how loud these are/were and i know first hand how loud the early ones are as my mate has one and it sounds like a hoover!

Any thoughts? Is there a coding or something i should look for?

Cheers
Trox

Im looking at the Elite range

I believe the answer, is that you can't - it's a lottery. The one benefit with the Elite, is that you'll be able to install a lot of your games to HDD. However even then whilst it stops the 360 DVD drive from spinning and thus much quieter, it's still not as quiet as a PS3 (certainly not in my case wisper quiet 160GB PS3 vs 360 Elite).

The Jasper is the newest revision of the 360 internals and is your best bet if buying one now, but I've only read reports or sightings of the Jasper in Arcade and 60GB Premium packs. Someone might post an update on this though.

If you Google 360 Jasper a couple of internet sites will come back with guides on how to spot one.

Remove fans and DVD Drive.

Not really the answer i was hoping for but i'm sure its a decent solution but i'd like to be able to install and play for more than 5 mins...

Thanks Timber and Randal24, ill check in to that. Atleast its something to go on :D

Have Jaspers Elites started filtering through here yet?

You wont get any 360 that is as quiet as a PS3, but installing games to HDD makes them more than bearable.

Can someone tell me if its only the Jasper units that have the 256MB internal memory?

And that internal mem is only for the dashboard afaik, you can't actually access it and use it.

The noise has prevented me from buying any 360 games for a year now. Even with NXE and HD install it still sounds like the space shuttle @ lift off:eek:

I have both a noisy Hitachi DVD Drive & Delta fans (the loudest combination). Want to get some more games for it but even after I put it in a desk cupboard its still loud enough to hear over loud volume.

Been doing some research recently and discovered that you can mod it to replace the delta fans for the nidec ones.

This video has a demonstration and as you can hear its a huge difference!

Only place I can find that sells them is in the US though. The part number is:
Nidec Xbox 360 E35427-55M1C2 12V 0.33A Replacement Fan

Obviously you also invalidate your warranty when you fit this and need the tools to open your case.

WHY OH WHY is it a problem for people with noise. I **** myself laughing when people say about noise. Have you never heard of volume on your tv or surround sound?

I install my games on my Elite, have surround sound on at a nice level and never ever noticed the 360 noise!

Err. You've obviously never owned a Zephyr 360 and tried to play a game whilst your g/f is trying to get to sleep!

Because i have to have my TV on at a pretty much unbearable volume to drown out my Xbox 360.
I dont use mine for anything other than a DVD player now, it is simply too noisy.

Have you ever thought that the reason this might be, is that the Xbox 360 really HAS unacceptable noise levels?

Playing the 360 late at night or if you live in a flat as I do, this isn't always an option.

As mentioned it's better when games are installed to the HDD, but even so when turning on any other console of this (or previous generations) makes you realise how bad the 360 is for noise.
