hi all just wandering about the above 50mm/55mm prime lenses/ just looking on the bay and there are lots of these for sale at low prices, but most dont state what cameras they will fit, some just say k mount some just state the make mainly minolta and pentax, how do i know if itll fit my lense, only 8 mins to go and no reply from the seller

MINOLTA MD FIT 1.7 50MM PRIME LENS +CAPS

would this fit found some minolta lenses stating they do fit sony a series but does this md fit one

typical really found some for other makes by minolta 30-50 quid reasonable really, to get the same lense for sony 239 quid, is that a sony being greedy thing or are they going to be a better lense for the sony

AFAIK you can get adaptors to fit the md format lens to an alpha but it will entirely manual i.e. not auto focusing and probably no metering. What you want is the Minolta 50mm F1.7 AF lens, or the F1.4 if you can find one.

k m8 cheers ill keep my eye out for one of those, in your opinion would one of these be better quality than the 18-70mm kit lense

1st off if you want it to fit straight on without an adapter & have AF etc. you want a Minolta AF or Sony Alpha fit lens.

If you look you'll see that the Sony 50mm is an f1.4 whereas the cheaper 50mms are usually f1.7/f1.8 (there are Minolta AF 50mm f1.7s around but demand is driving up the s/h price). By comparison the Canon EF 50mm f1.4 USM is currently £295 at WE with the Sony at £252.
There is a rumour that Sony are about to introduce a new 50mm f1.8 but whether it's based on fact ...

& yes, it's a better lens at 50mm than the kit 18-70 is but it's rather worse at 18mm or 70mm :p
