Turn a wind up torch into a wind up battery charger?

the bridge will not affect the voltage.
you really need a multimeter though, voltage regulators usually need a minimum input voltage to work and you need to know how much the dynamo is capable of outputting.

like one of the questions from a certain electrical component store

Q) What is minimum input voltage for 5v regulated output? Thanks - tga

A) 6.2 volt supply minimum

i bought a special 1 so its got 0.5v dropout or something and the wind up can produce up to 12v

Its Finished! - Here are some pictures of what i've done

I've made the wind up torch so that it can still be charger as a torch as well as a USB charger - i got a switch from a broken Power Supply to switch between charging the LED battery and the USB.

you could charge them both at once but basically the switch just enables and disables the charging of the LED/Torch Battery.

I had to include a Capacitor in the circuit which i didnt know about before but luckily i managed to find one that i could use.

I've tried charging some things through USB and it worked well - I will test my phone and some other things later but so far its looking good.

all i need to do now is put it all back in its original shell.

Any chance you could make the pictures bigger strugling to see them on a 19" monitor.

Loving what you are doing tho. might have to go fangle about with some motors and such when i get home

Magic cheers. i used to love tinkering around with little kits that did the simplest of things but the sense of acheivement was overwhelming.

i'm a little concerned that something isnt right with it though because when i turn it in the other direction it changed the nevative and positive ways - so if i turn it in the other direction im not sure whats happening - will test more

We bought one a few years ago that had a few mobile phone connectors on it for £5

Its utterly useless though! Personally, i would spend the £5 buying a 2nd hand battery instead
