What is the best way to collect charity money from strangers?

I plan to raise money for charity soon and would like to raise as much as possible which means I need to have all sorts of different ways of getting money.

So far I've got door to door which is the obvious one, but I can also collect online. I know popular charities like Cancer Research have online forms setup for people wanting to raise money for them, however what happens when your charity is smaller and has no feature?

What would be the best way collect money from people I don't actually know online? Obviously I want them to feel it's a safe reliable way to pay, it also makes it easier to track money. Something I can tie my bank account up to safely.

Has anyone used anything like this before and if so can you email me or reply here?

You still have to advertise it some how. Doing sponsored things is probably the best..

Door to door you will just annoy people and I bet you will get very few detonators. Mighty be better making a leaflet and posting it through letterboxes with teh just giving site and explaining it all.

Justgiving is a good suggestion - most people I know are familiar with the site and some have used it.

Just don't become a chugger :)
