Afternoon all (well, it's afternoon here :p). Just thought I'd pop in and say hello. Been a while since I spoke to you all. What's happening? I've read through a few threads but I can't be bothered to go trawling through them all so can someone give me a brief summary of what's been happening over the last few months please? :)

Nothing much happening with me. Went home to Shetland to spend Christmas with my family for the first time in 5 years, which was nice. Still working in Egypt and still got my MR2.

Haven't bought any new hardware since I gave up the DC lark. One legacy of a Folding addiction is that I have a fair amount of highish end hardware left. I dismantled the farm and gave a few machines away to family/friends and I still have 3 rigs left. My gaming rig, an internet machine (underclocked  to save power) and a download/media machine. I'm thinking about upgrading the gaming rig to i7 and using some of the bits to make a media server for the living room, running Mythbuntu and using the old media machine with the Mythbuntu frontend to feed the TV in my entertainment/computer room.

Anyway, not much point to this thread other than saying hi and trying to catch up with some old friends :)

Hi Stan

Some of are here still, some have drifted away, but lots of new friendly faces :D - the SMP client is still beta, but most of us use the Nvidia GPU2 client now - Over 100k ppd from a single cruncher is now possable.

Nice and stable with only the odd rogue WU giving at a bad rep, under vista you'd not even know your system was 'busy'

My smp farm has gone - company got taken over and now in new offices, but my Oc'ed / low temp / low volts 8800gs get more almost as much, with a fraction of the hassel - check out the news for an idea of what a single pc can now do.

Tempted.... ;)

I think shadowscotland means points per week rather than ppd.

4x 9800GX2's with good WUs would equal 41,000ppd

If you paired that with a heavily overclocked Core i7 you could add another 11,000 ppd giving you a total of 52,000ppd from one PC.

I think that's about the maximum at the moment. :)

Good to hear from you Stan - glad to hear that all is well and you're coping with the withdrawal :p :)

Not a huge amount has changed on the folding front - still the never-ending beta though the clients do at least seem mostly to improve each time there is a new release. SETI have got themselves a CUDA client so for DC as a whole that can only be a good thing

On a personal note I managed to get myself singlified at the end of October so have been home with the parents until I can sort out something a bit more suitable for work. Still it's all part of life and certainly beats flogging a dead donkey (or maybe that should be camel for you :p). Still working in the logistics/IT game and hoping the job will remain, the company appear to know what they're doing at least so fingers crossed! :o

Hi there big fella, glad to hear things are well for you.
I managed to get to the Top Spot again hadnt even realised how close I was till about mid November. Wont be up here long, Vertigo.
Emilys rig is doing well keeping her in the Top 30, shame I cant find any DC work to do for Multiple Sclerosis but hopefully her rig is helping to find cures for others.
Ill be buying 3D Model/Animation software and turning some of my rigs on to that. Getting to old to stay in the floorlaying game, so I guess its about time I lived up to my user name and see if I can make a living with models and anims.
Take care mate, bet if you pick that winning lotto ticket youll be back.:)
Tom.

4 x GTX295's overclocked ??

Hello Stan, some of us oldies are still lurking, the madness of multi rig has left me too, along with a fair few others. the price of leccy and lack of cash has a lot to do with it I suppose :(
It's been a bit quiet around these parts lately, not much parping and no frenzied races any more. Still things go in cycles and I'm still here after ten years

edit. bugger that makes me feel old, reading that back :o

Hello dude

I'm still pottering along with FaH, it's an on/off affair.

I still use SMP, santa bought me an artic driving course and not the 4870x2 I fancied :)

Just got given an old P3 Dell laptop, bunged Xubuntu on it and it's doing about 20ppd, it will all help.

Any good trucking jobs up your way?

Cheers

Oops, made this thread and then forgot about it :o:o

Always tempted mate. I may consider firing up the gaming rig if the GPU2 client is as stable as you say - we'll see ;)

Sorry to hear about the split mate :( I hope your parents don't mind the extra leccy from the Folding :p

Congrats on the top spot dude. I hope Emily is keeping as well as she can :)

I hope you can make something of the modelling/animation thing - at least all that high-end hardware will come in handy.

If I get the winning ticket, you won't be at the top for very long afterwards :D

You are old dude :p Glad to see so many of the old faces still around. As I said in the post above, I may consider reviving the gaming rig to give the 8800GTX a bit of a thrashing - will have to have a think about it - maybe give it a trial run when I get home, see how stable this GPU2 client really is.

Useless Santa, bringing practical presents instead of proper ones :p
I fancied getting a 4870X2 myself but if I'm going to Fold on it, it'll need to be a GTX295 (or 2 :D).

Dunno about trucking jobs up this way mate, I don't get out much and I don't read the local rag (couldn't even tell you what it's called :o).

I'm still about, but with the new year my priorities have changed somewhat which means things like the Team OcUK website have fallen even further down the list (it's getting tired and desperately needs a refresh but I just don't have the time - even though I do have the ideas).

Farm is still going (mostly) but I'm not paying much attention to it, so anything that stops, stops. I might have a look at GPU2 if it'll run on my 3850, but I'm probably going to quit folding within a month or so anyway.

Lo Stan. Good to see you haven't disappeared :D

Still folding away here and putting out more in a day with a single 8800GT 256 and SMP combination than I used to get for well over a month of crunching a while back.

I'm in the middle of applying for PhDs. Had an interview yesterday and the guy said I was his choice from the applications and that if the departmental committee likes me then I should have an offer letter in a couple of weeks. Woop :D

100000 posts!! you must have literallly lived in these forums:)

Slacker :p

You'll be back..
