Gonna put a new system together soon (E8500, Asus P5 Pro) and i'm just wondering what the heatsink would be.

I dont plan on overclocking (yet) so i'm more interested in getting one that is as silent as possible. Budget would be roughly £25.

And with whichever one you recomend would i need to buy Arctic silver thermal compound or will the cooler come with its own stuff?

Thanks muchly

AC Freezer - MX2 is preapplied job done.

If you want to run the cpu passively aka without a fan - your need something like a ninja but that's over budget and will need some attention to your case airflow / fans (not differcult just some thought required)

Depends what you mean by silent - to me that means below ambient noise level (which varies) but many other just mean very quiet. Attention to your PSU and GPU are a must with is you want quiet computing.

E8500 peaks only at 30W so most modern heatsinks could cool it passively for as long as case airflow would be controlled.
And it definitely won't be problem to any current heatsink.

Don't go anywhere near the Freezer if you want silent, it's anything but. Anything over 1900RPM (IIRC) is too loud for me anyway.

You'd be best to go with something like the Xigmatek 1283HDT, or any of the other newer HDT style coolers. Most are around the £25 bracket

Yeah can i get some help on this to? I am looking for a new CPU cooler around £30 for a AM2 socet my temp is 75C @load so i think i need a new one :)

I'm moving to water just now but have been very impressed by the Noctua cooler (in sig). It is slightly more than your budget although well worth it for noise levels.

I'm very impressed by the noctua (in sig) too. I can't hear it over my case fans or gfx ever, and it does a good job in cooling. My system idles around 27 and have yet to see 60, even on 3.4 and 100 load, seems to level at 58/59.

That said, they aren't cheap.
