22inch Monitor Decisions

basically im considering buying a 22inch monitor, and have been struggling with choice was firsly considering

but then noticed the rose red one with a 2ms reponse time for sake of a fiver figured it was better

but then noticed this asus one, with 2ms response time for a bit les £££ but i wanna know will i notice and difference at all with 12000:1 ratio over a 20000:1, and this one can handle a higher resolution

must admit the samsung ones look a lot better. plus it will also match my t.v, but its not to say the asus one isnt ugly, so really its more of a case of which one is the better statistically out of the 3

I've always found the monitor forums to be a little lacking in the help department for some reason, not sure why.

To give you another choice - I got the Viewsonic VX2260wm a few weeks back and think it's excellent; 22" at 1920 x 1080, with a really clean and sharp image.

If you search the forums for this monitor you'll find some decent reviews of it, mainly all positive.

Might be because monitor tastes are more subjective than, say, seeing FPS gains from graphics cards?

I'm considering one of those Samsungs after seeing them in John Lewis. Not sure if I can justify the cost, though.
 
i like the samsung more, it loooks a lot nicer, and is the same as my t.v.....but i just want to know, wil i notice a huge difference with the HD resolution and with the contrast ratio.

its definatey a choice betweem the asus and the rose red samsung

The differances between contrast ratios are really a none issue on these screens, they are all broadly similiar. The figures you are quoting are for dynamic contrast ratio, not static, which to be perfectly honest I would turn off, it just looks wrong to me.

Statistically the Asus has the advantage of a higher resolution panel, which immediatly puts it out infront to me. Image quality is much the same on TN panels at this end of the market, the out of the box colour reproduction can vary a bit and the black depth a little. Caliberated they are much the same, I guess you wont be using any hardware caliberation though. I doubt you will notice the differance between 2ms or 5ms response times, 2ms ones are using an overdrive unit to achieve that anyway, certainly some are better than others though.

I am actually going to recommend something you didn't list though, this 23" Samsung

I was tempted to reccomend that samsung panel aswell moeks but I thought it might be out of his price range... I picked one up a week or so back and highly reccomend it.

go for the asus as its a higher resolution at 1900*1080 and also in HD forget the other 2 as they are only 1600
 
im goin to buy 2 monitors in the near future and the asus one is really tempting, it even has speakers! love to know your thoughts once youve made your decision!
 
I've been thinking about a new monitor for a while also. I think I'm going to order the Asus... The resolution and HDMI input have pretty much sold it to me. I need a monitor for my pc and also my 360... If I'm also able to use the vga input to connect my laptop, that ticks all the right boxes! :D
