Hi guys

Should I be looking in the £300 - £1250 sticky for this?

Purchased from OcUK obviously :)

Tried to build a few but keep coming way over, if some kind soul could buy and post what they see as a decent system then I'd be very grateful!! Could maybe stretch to £850 at a push :D

Many thanks in advance!

If you have a monitor / keyboard / mouse its certainly possible for your budget.

I built mine 12 months ago for £500 and its still runnning nicely.

However, for specs i'll let someone more clued up to give you a nice shopping list :)

Won't need the speakers (sorry should have said) I have a nice set of headphones and mic.....

Does the E7400 clock well?

Without the speakers, you should be able to get the e8xx which clocks better.

Although if you want a high overclock you need to get extra case fans and a decent HSF which adds a lot. Should get a reasonable clock out with the standard hsf though.

The new wolfdale CPU's clock very well, I've included a CPU cooler, which should see you able to overclock the E7400 further than with the stock cooler. The above setup would provide a pretty decent gaming rig.

ok thanks..

What are you actually wanting to do with the system? as that greatly effects the components that should go in it

Gaming, internet, office based bits..

Nice spec... will read through this in more detail at home tonight...

Many thanks guys!! ;)

very nice setup imo. PSU will do fine as that won't draw more than 350watts

ro55o's spec looks good, couple areas you could trim are a) cooler, get the akasa ak965, just as good half the price b) the mobo, unless youre planning on adding a 2nd card later for crossfire you could save £30 by just getting the gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L, that'd save you £40 just them 2

Don't need the OS either, have a spare copy here from another build...

Hi there

Is the Freezer pro the best cooler for the 8400 to get good air clocks? Or could someone recommend another unit?

It's good for the price and should keep the E8400 pretty cool. There are better, but then the price goes up. I've got a tuniq tower cooling my 8400, I'm defnitely happy with it, keeps my temps low and is one of the better coolers.

The Thermalright TRUE is regarded as the best you can buy, but add a couple of fans and it soon becomes really expensive

The noctua is another fantastic cooler, but again it's on the expensive side
