I don't own a HD console, so will probably get Streetfighter IV for Windows. The YouTube vids look really good.

Reviews/previews for specifically the PC version seem few and far between though. Anybody got ideas about how well this bad boy will perform, disk thrashes etc in a fight are very 90s.

Also, I'm not hot on understanding Microsoft integration: if there is a quality arcade stick on the Xbox 360 (like a Hori stick for instance) will that work with Windows XP? What alternative controllers are there, I remember there used to be USB adaptors for console pads but they seemed a bit hit and miss....

If it's a Games for Windows game then it will allow you to use the XBox 360 controller which should be perfect for this kind of game. I bought the official USB wireless receiver thingy but have yet to use it properly with my controller. Might look at this game for some chill out enjoyment if it comes out ok.

I used a Namco Arcade Stick for the PS1 successfully with emulators and games on the PC using a PS2>USB adapter (PS2 as in console not mouse connector :p)

Im on the lookout atm for any of the Hori arcade sticks for Xbox will say if I find any

Yea I'll be getting this game for the pc as I too don't own a 360 or ps3, but however I will be gettin the madcatz 360 sfvi tournament game stick ;)

Im hoping it uses GFW Live with cross platform play, would be funny nutting some 360 owners in a higher res :p.

Couldnt be further from the truth. The 360 controller is a horrible mess when it comes to 2d style beat em ups. The d-pad is just awful.

I use the usb version of the Sega Satun pad which is probably the best pad you can use for this style of beat em up.

Shame the game isnt being released on pc at the same time as the console versions, most big online retailers are showing dates in May now for the pc version :(

The 360 pad is bad for Fighting Games overall to be honest.

Grab yourself a PS2-USB convertor thingy so you can use PS2 pads, or get the Arcade sticks that were made for them. Some have USB connections too, great for MAME and emulators etc so its an easy doddle to setup.

And yes the really rare Sega Saturn style USB pads is the absolute best for any 2D games. Great d-pad as always (8-way), and 6-buttons perfect for StreetFighter.

Well there was a PC version of StreetFighter Zero/Alpha 2, although its REALLY old, i.e. Windows 95/98 era and so may have trouble runnning on modern PCs.

Same goes for Virtua Fighter and Virtua Fighter 2.

There are PC versions of some of the Guilty Gear games too i.e. Guilty Gear XX #Reload - The Midnight Carnival and Guilty Gear Isuka.

Agreed. The analogue sticks on the 360 pad are as good as it gets, but the d-pad is truly, truly dire. So much so that SF is verging on unplayable.

A stick or the new Fighter pad will be an essential purchase.

Even the good old Dreamcast had a better d-pad for fighting games and the Xbox/Xbox 360 controllers are supposed to be the refinement of that.

Hmmm why play the thing with a pad anyway if you're going to use the D-pad, might as well use the keyboard ? I'm a noob though I always play fighting games with the analog pad as I hate the dpad for anything :p.

Fighting games and keyboard should not be in the same sentence. Try doing complex special moves and combos with the arrow keys or something, so unless you have a fully gaming capable anti-ghosting keyboard without the three keys limit, you will literately want to break it. And macros don't count cause otherwise you fail! :p

I have a G11 keyboard and it doesn't moan even with 5 keys pressed at once. And macro's don't work because lazy logitech arsescratchers can't make vista x64 drivers :(.

edit: They have now!
Downloading :D. There weren't any when I started using vistax64.

The pad is actually very good for beat-em-ups, certainly much better than analogue sticks, which register your input too 'early' in the movement.

It's only the hardcore that insist on micro-switched arcade joysticks. In saying that I'd love to try one out at home, when it won't cost infinite £1 coins to practice. It's just the initial outlay of the ~£70 it costs for a Hori stick, plus the X360 pad for Windows (to get the dongle) that stops me. I love Streetfighter, but when I payed £60 for the Megadrive version.... Once bitten, twice shy....

Using a pad is nothing like a keyboard - try pulling off a dragon punch using keys ;)

A decent d-pad is on par with an arcade stick - it just comes down to preference. There's no way SF could be played with an analogue stick to any decent level!

Yep I will be getting this but ignore the console release date as Capcom have stated on their official forums its a long way off for PC as still in early development so probably Q2 sometime.
