Man juices in a boil? No shame, that's Shelby Super Cars' Aero EV in pursuit of the "world's fastest production electric car" title. SSC just came clean with the details behind its All-Electric Scalable Powertrain (AESP) producing 1,000 horsepower and 800 lb-ft of torque that rips the Aero EV through 0 to 60 in just 2.5 seconds at a 208mph top speed.

Compare that to the Tesla Roadster's 0-60 in 3.9 seconds (or 3.7 for the 2009 sport model) and you'll understand all the hubbub, bub. Better yet, the 150-220 mile battery can be refilled in just 10 minutes (Tesla takes 3.5 hours) from a 220V service thanks to what SSC calls its "Charge on the Run" onboard charging system -- something that nearly eliminates (or at least minimizes) the need for a battery swapping infrastructure. The first full-scale, pre-production Ultimate Aero EV should be on the streets before June with production deliveries expected in the fourth quarter. Now we just need a price.

Who's betting on pricing? I reckon cheaper than a Tesla due to not having 6000 laptop batteries -_-

Blooming heck! 0 to 60 in just 2.5 seconds at a 208mph top speed! 150-220 mile battery can be refilled in just 10 minutes!!! Now this is good news.

It would be so strange going from 0-60 in that, silently!

Probably rather scary :p

Sounds fantastic though. But the price won't be :(

I'd want to see the technical details of the battery and charging system to even consider believing these figures. I fail to see how charging that thing in 10mins is possible using a 220v supply unless its an absolutely bloody HUGE one. 1000bhp is also many hundreds of KW, you'd drain any theoretical battery system dry within a few minutes.

Looks completely pie in the sky to me. Totally made up figures.

Ugly? IMO that's the one thing this does have going for it, it looks fantastic. It just needs some proper figures to back up these pie in sky nonsense ones.

Do you like Pie or something? :p

Well I don't think a full charge is done when plugged in as the "charge on the run" feature sounds like it charges a portion whilst running ?

That front end is hideous. The rest is ok - the back end is basically an S7...not good, very Hot Wheels, very 80's. :)

(imho of course)

If you drew an average of 500bhp over 15mins you would need around 470kg of lithium ion battery assuming 200Wh/kg. Thats gonna be on expensive battery, probably around £80k and god knows where you'd package it.

The only way I can see it charging while running to have somesort sort of regenerative breaking, kinetic charging(?) and possible a small wind/turbine....

It's possible that it's also got a couple of ultra high capacitors holding the initial 10minute charge, which then feeds into the batteries when it's driving, charging as its being driven. Without any specs though it's hard to say anything for sure. :(

I think it looks good :)
