Guys, I am about to get a new case, as I am in dire need of one, my old Jeantech Phong (yuck!! but it's served it's purpose!) is getting to the limit of it's usefulness now and I need to replace it.

Now, I have not really set a particular budget, but I do have a specific requirement, and that is that the case is NO DEEPER THAN 500mm.

To be honest, I was completely sold when I saw rjkoneills Silverstone FT01 thread ( http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13088506&postcount=2 ). It's a beautiful case, and just about perfect for my needs.

In fact so much so, I was about to buy it until I looked in the cases gallery and saw a Lian-Li PC7 in black ( http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13343193&postcount=1888 ), which is also very nice. Granted, not just as nice as the Silverstone and no window (which is no big deal as my case sits in a desk and the window is hidden anyway), but.....

Silverstone - £143

Lian-Li - £58

£85 less expensive for the Lian-Li!!

Even if I were to add a decent soundproofing kit, it still works out £63 less!

Now, I am not planning on watercooling, I am sticking to air. I don't plan on having multiple GFX cards (been down that road before and never again!) and I am reducing to 2 HDD's when I re-install everything.

I also like my system to be as quiet as possible, so that is very important. I have heard about Lian-Li's suffering from vibrations, but not sure if that applies to this case?

So, my question is should I just grab the cheaper case, or am I missing something glaringly obvious that makes the Silverstone worth so much more?

Lian, its a big'ish size case and keeps my hardware cool :)

My hard drive vibrates a lot so i just got some rubber feet and stuck them on the feet to stop the vibrations. So if your hd vibrates you will need some rubber feet i think ;)

You wont be disappointed with it, well i wasn't :D

Personally I think for your spec the silverstone is overkill but the price is a huge factor for me :p With the money you save from the lian li you could make your system really quiet and buy a side panel with a window ^^

Though if you are really worried about vibrations maybe go for the silverstone though a decent soundproofing kit in the lian li should help.

I don't think you would regret either. The PC-7 is a decent case at a very good price. The Silverstone is also very nice, built about the same standard, but obviously is priced very differently. If it was me, I'd take the PC-7 and upgrade something else as well.

Am in almost exactly the same boat - been looking around at quite a few cases and I keep coming back to a couple of the Lian-Li's (A07B, 7B PLUS II, and PC7 YCF B PLUS II). Superb value I think.

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I know the Lian-Li is much better value, but is it's build quality at a level similar to the Silverstone? I'm hoping someone with access to both (come on rjkoneil!!) will post on here to confirm.

Just read through some of the user reviews on here about the Lian-Li and a couple mention about the panels being very thin and also about vibrations. This would worry me as noise is a huge factor.

Still got some researching and thinking to do. No point saving £80, then having to spend £40-50 or more getting what I need out of the case. hmmm

In my opinion too much is made of the cases where vibration is concerned.

I have two Lian Li A70B´s side by side. One is very quite and the other is a little loud.

Why because the CPU cooler and GPU are much noisier.

Take care as to buying good quite components and you will not go wrong with a Lian.

Oh, I do buy quiet components where possible. TRUE cooler, Noctua NF-P12 fans, Samsung Spinpoint HDD's, Zalman PSU...

But then there are components that are that bit louder - GFX cards etc, which is where the case can make a big difference.

I'm not slating the Lian-Li, as I have never had one, but I need to be sure that when I buy this case I am completely satisfied, as I don't intend on changing it for quite some time (had my current case 4 or more years now).

both manufacturers are top quality in build standards. I don't have that specific Lian Li, but some models include sound proofing like mine or PC25B model. If it wasn't for my GFX and raptor Raid 0 my case would be fairly silent, but that is a sacrifice i am willing to make ;)

Yes, I can justify it. It's my 1st case upgrade for years and I want it to be one that I am completely satisfied with. If that means spending a lot more, then so be it. I just saw the Lian-Li and thought it was incredible value, however the more I look at the Silverstone, the more I want it.

Decisions, decisions...

The quality of the Lian Li is great for the price,

I gave my mate my old pc-7 (with the 80mm fans at the front) its 6/7 years old, and apart from the dust build up, its still a great looking case.

I used the Lian Li as a step for a while before I gave it to my mate (when empty) and it did not bend. They are plain looking cases, but quality all the same.

Lian Li quality is fantastic, and i doubt you'd notice and difference in quality between it and the Silverstone. The £85 difference is invested in features, rather than quality. The Silvestone comes with a lot more space, more bays and what not and a nod of the hat to watercooling... but if you're not going to use it, then it's a waste.

Get the Lian Li. The PC7 is a solid case.

Thanks again guys for all the opinions. You have succeeded in making my decision even more difficult!! :p

Still not sure what to do. I do like the value of the PC7, but I keep on wondering about the vibration issues. If I got one with that problem, it'd drive me nuts and I know I would end up having to change it.

That said though, the PC7 with some decent soundproof matting might just be the ticket.

The problem is you are now caught in the middle and which ever one you choose my guess is that you will wish you bought the other one simply because both will have roughly the same amount of vibration that will annoy you.

Both totally different price, why don't you look at Lian Li around the same price as Silverstone i.e. Lian Li PC-V1100 or B25B? or even PC-7FW which i'm hoping to get in a few weeks :)

+1 for the silverstone

I have both and the build quality on the siverstone is far better.:D
The cooling in the pc7 i always found to be lacking unless you use high airflow fans and then the side panels rattle
The ft01 hasw great airflow, plenty of room and lots of hard drive caddies.
But for the same price as the pc7 i would get the coolermaster cm690.It can have up to seven fans easy to tidy the cables and plenty of room ;)
