Hi

Could anyone tell me which one of these HDTV's will give the very best PQ
and reliability results with the X360, PS3 and Bly-Ray?

Sony 40V4000 (1080P LCD)
Panasonic 42PZ80 (1080P Plasma)

Thankyou

Gonna say the Sony as you have specified you will mainly be using it for HD, not SD which are the Panasonic's greatest strength. They are still very good at HD but i'd say the Sony is slightly better HD wise.

Thanks for the advice so far guys.

As it turns out my TV budget had gone up by £200
and am now trying to decide between the Panasonic 42PZ80
and Sony 40W4000 any thoughts?

The panny, their fullHD 1920x1080p plasma panels are not only stunning when reproducing HD sources, they still own the LCD panels when it comes to SD. Panny have excellent internal scalers. (Its also a smaller margin of error when scaling from 576line PAL SD to 1080, compared to 576 -> 768), 576 -> 1080 can "almost" be done simply with a line doubler(it would have 72 spare lines it would have to disgard).

Always worth checking the panel resolution too, if you upscale 576 line PAL to 720P, but have a 768 line TV, the TV's scalers will have to try to correct that. With the quality of Panny scalers feeding a raw SD feed, the TV will scale directly to the native panel resolution. With a 1080P set, if the DVD/Bluray/SkyHD box upscales to 1080 the TV's internal scalers are effectivly disabled, so you can choose which device has the best scaler, but on a 768line TV this is rarely if ever true, as you can only feed the screen with 480, 576, 720 or 1080 line feeds unless you use the VGA input.

Anyway, the Panny PZ range are all "TrueHD" 1920x1080. Stunning TV's for the price.

Thanks M8.

You wouldn't happen to know how X360 & PS3 games look on the 42PZ80
compared to the 40W4000?

Honestly people harp on about LCDs for gaming, but the only positive over a plasma for me is the inability to get image retention. Games are still smoother on a plasma and there is no lag on them what so ever..

Plus the V series is definately worse than the W, and does have problems with clouding etc.

Get the PZ80, very very good set for hte price, but go for the 50 if you can, around £900 last time I saw it.

Having seen the 42PZ80 next to both the 40V4000 and 40W4000
the panny's PQ was definitely the best, so i ordered it.

Thanks for everybodies help.
