January Transfer Window Thread - rumours and signings here

Only just noticed this.

If only that was the case. Countless times this season the balls been fired across the face of goal to him and not only has he often missed the target but you'd be amazed at the amount of times he's missed the ball.

His finishing has been pretty embarrassing, not much of a step up from Tuncay's.

Late into this thread - I assume you're talking about Keane? Has to be Keane?!?

Going to watch the game @ Wigan tonight and am praying he can have a good game. Rafa seem's to be adept at buying strikers and converting them into midfielders how chip in with the odd goal now and then

Liverpool open talks with Dirk Kuyt re an extension to his current deal. I'm close to tears.

He's not the prolific striker that we once hoped we'd just bagged, but he does a job for the team. A new contract maintains his value while we address more pressing areas of the team (RW and Striker, and CB if we lose Agger)

He does a job yes, he takes the space of someone who could be bought in to replace Kuyt and do an actual wingers job. Kuyt is not a prolific striker, nor a capable winger. He will give you a lot of hard work, but he has no creativity nor is he capable of moments of brilliance.

Completely true.

And when we have a replacement, we'll sell him on. However, in order to sell him on, he needs to be under contract - unless of course you think Benayoun, Babel or El Zhar are able replacements or unless you want to recall Pennant...

No we won't. Benitez will always want to keep Kuyt and so would I. If/when we sort the rw position out Kuyt will still be handy player to have around in the squad, he's got an excellent attitude, hardworking and can do a job in a number of positions.

However, if you were to get £8-£10m for him, which isn't beyond the realms of possibility, wouldn't it be worth taking him and spending that on a proper right winger, or even a proper striker and getting a winger in on loan.

Heck, get £10m from Kuyt, save another £5-£10m and you could get Valencia which would get you a lot of width.

If we were to get a decent offer (and that would be more than £10m) then yea it would be worth selling him to buy a decent right winger. But i'd rather we sold Babel, who'd go for similar money and keep Kuyt.

Basically if we had to sell him to buy somebody that would improve our first team then fair enough but there are several players who i'd rather see go first.

It was slightly tongue in cheek but he is a lucky keeper. Even on SSN's section on your clean sheet record the best they could come up with from him was the fumbled cross vs us this season where Kuyt nearly scored.
