right i need to make a decission reasonalby quick
my mobo ASUS P5Q PRO is able to xfire ati cards but is unable to sli nvidia so ive read.
im currently using a evga core 216 with no issues what so ever, this was bought after my sapphire 4870 512 was rma'd and a new one was sent out and then i sold it.
looking at the price of the 1gig 4870's here im wondering should i make full use of my mobo and get 2 of these and xfire and loose the core 216.
is there any point in me doing this ?, will a xfire setup make much of a difference compared to the 1 core 216 ?
many thanks in advance

Depends what resolution you run, and yes 2 x 4870's will be considerably faster than a 260-216.

regardles of screen size the answer is yes do it.

then at a later date get a larger screen to maximise the potential of your new cards.
At this price they're cheaper than chips

then go and hit the buy buton on x 2 cards

im scared ! she is going to kill me, possibly leave me ! lol

hmm just thought, the p45 boards have 2 x16 pcie slots but wont run xfire at x16 for each, i think its 8 and 8.
how much of an effect would this make

its looking like 1 4870x2

hmm well im about to do the same well already have one 4870 just need another, and i believe that shouldnt make much difference as they currently dont need the x16 at teh moment

What minimum power supply is recommended for such a setup with two cards?

Thinking of possibly adding a 2nd 4870 1GB and currently using an FSP 700W psu.

thanks hex
now i just need to know if 2 will fit on my mobo, just looking now and it looks like a 2nd card will eliminate my xfi soumnd card in the pci slot
infact i think it will take out both my pci slots, thats sound and network cards !?

It'll be very very tight to use that last PCI slot, if at all.

You might have to flog your X-Fi and change to a PCI-E soundcard and use the slot above the first GPU.

And why not just use the onboard networking?

no really she wont ! lol
my computer is just over a year old and ive spent about £200 less on upgrades than i paid for it ? ? ? ? ? ?
