why are they credible?
What exactly makes them credible?
Is it not generally accepted in society that a doctor/astronaut/admiral with distinguished service histories are more credible than a binman or a low-level office worker?

It might be generally accepted, but I have no idea why.
Because (as if it needs explaining ffs) they are in positions of great trust and reputation, and have more to lose than anyone. Talking about UFO experiences invites ridicule, and those people above all others would be hesitant to invite such criticism.
Suppose Harold Shipman was credible? Err... great example to use there. A rare and heinous serial killer suddenly tars all the 99.9% of good, upstanding doctors with the same brush.
I know this may come as a surprise, but not everyone in this world is a lying cheating scumbag in it for a few bucks. .
David Cameron has vowed to publish any secret files that may exist on UFOs if he becomes prime minister.

The British Government is already releasing some files with the promise of more to come
He can release all he wants; people like Teki and magick will still claim he's holding something back.
I find the animosity to the "UFO posters" frankly a bit bizzarre, there are people here who post far more mind-numbing tripe and yet just because it's "normal stuff" people don't bat an eyelid. At least the UFO posts are interesting/entertaining, and that's more than can be said for 60% of the posts in this place.
