Grand Theft Auto 4

@Delvis

Settings don't make much difference, I think i'm CPU limited totally, though inexplicably get less frames than people with the same CPU. That's life in PC GTA land I guess.

please help me
been playing the game since release
just re formated and installed, now i keep getting securerom not working after i press play from socialclub
any ideas why ???

Have you turned it off and on again?

But seriously, have you checked the R* website/gtaforums for this error? It seems familiar, I think there is a fix.

EDIT: This page mentions something about RivaTuner, are you using that?

Have you installed EVERYTHING....exscuse the caps :p

As in, C++ redistributable? Games for windows live? etc etc....

I'm trying to find a thread on the GTA forums with your issue as ive seen it before but i cant at the moment.

Well i installed latest Nvidia drivers, and GTA is giving me higher average fps, at a higher resolution. nice :)

still only 39fps average but that will do :D

Completed this tonight, the game kind of grew on me a bit. At first the poor framerate, easy missions and unforgiving physics was a bit offputting, making me rank it below VC and SA.

Now, I'm not so sure. They've done away with a lot of the 'grinding' that was present in SA, i.e. you don't need to hit the gym or go around running/swimming just to beef up your stats before attempting certain missions. They seem to have focussed a lot more on the dialogue and linear story development this time around. It's almost more of a traditional game now, more like the Driver series than GTA, although of course there's still a lot of optional extras you can participate in. They've just done away or improved on some of the annoying stuff, like those 'car collection' missions in VC where you don't have any pictures or anything to go on. It's a bit more streamlined and once I got used to the car handling I found it a very enjoyable game - certainly vastly superior to GTA3 which I was playing last month. Of of the best aspects is that (most of the time) you have a good variety of missions to choose from.

Best character for me was Brucie.

One thing which does suck hugely however is the unrealistic and unneccesary time constraints you get for the some of the side missions. I.e, you arrange to meet someone for a date/entertainment or whatever, and Niko says "I'll be there in an hour", even if it's on the other side of town and you're in some clapped out family sedan. It'd be much better if it gave you the option of choosing a time to pick them up.

Overall my 'gut feeling' is that it's not quite a good a game as Vice City, but then I haven't played that for a few years, if I tried it again maybe I'd feel differently.

I love it.

If it ran fluidly at top settings, I'd love it even more.

You can do the story line, or you can go mad and kill people while tirning off the auto save and not have to worry about things.

Awesome.

It's a brilliant game imo. I really enjoyed completing the main story and have to say the characters are great.:D

Just upgraded from a HD4870 512MB to GTX 280 and can play it on very high settings. Looks very nice.;)

Who here plays matches on Airport/Happyness Island/Other foot based places?

Or are you cool and actually want to have the ability to have a car and powerslide round street corners giving chase?

Its 1 of the online co-op modes. With 3 other good people we should be able to do it in less than 7 minutes (goes towards the Fly the Co-op achievement), requires some military planning but its great fun pulling it off :p.

I haven't even touched the mutiplayer yet...I should give it a go really...might go on now for the hell of it.

Although I probably need to activiate my live account all of a sudden for online use.

Just as I thought, the names taken...Although I swear when I created it before for offline it checked the name as well.

Christ, how long does it take to join a game? I sat there for atleast 5 mins with the 'starting game' scrolling across my game twice now, with no go :p

I'm guessing you also HAVE to go multiplayer via the phone?

Whats the state of multiplayer like on the PC. On the xbox it was really really poor, all servers had the same settings, autoaim on, nametags and dots on map always on. It was a case of chase the dot and then hold down autoaim and fire.

I think that autoaim for the PC should always be off, and that dots should not show up on short range, that way you wont get to seperated but you will have to tread carefully and acctually aim, use cover etc when hunting someone down.

Should be picking it up tomorrow if that morrisons offer is still on.
